The other day I noticed that Luna was perching on her swing on one foot. She was still using the other foot, but every once in a while she would raise it and just stand on one foot. I am taking her to the vet on Monday and will mention it then, but i just wondered, could it be because her perches are too small around? I just read the thread on perches and their sizes and a couple of mine are just too skinny and they will be replaced this evening.
Becky,
I think this is something they do from time to time just to be comfortable and to get warm. When B.B. does this, after he puts his foot back down it feels really hot. Having some different sized perches in there for your bird to alternate between is good for their foot health though, I have read. The sandpaper covered ones are not good for them, another little something else I found out recently.

Oh, okay, that would make sense. She doesn't seem to have any problems with that foot. Thanks!!

I agree, it is something they do from time to time but I would mention it to the vet since you're going in on Monday. If it's not too much of a chore, you might want to take along a few of the perches that you have to see what the vet thinks about he diameter and texture, etc. of the perches you have. My avian vets office sells a small line of toys, perches, seed, etc. and one of the vets helped me pick out the right size perches for Oliver the first time I went in.

Parrots do use their feet to regulate body temperature. One foot up could also mean he's a little chilly willy.:cold . Sometimes I think we're dealing with miniture tyrannosauruses who's only difference is our little ones have zygodactyl feets! ..........Michael and Goofy

Oh, well I am glad to know that it may just be normal. I haven't seen her doing it since then so I am fairly certain that she was cold. My husband keeps it below zero(exageration):cold in the house :(. I always turn the air off during the day so that it will be warm for her, but we haven't even gotten our heat connected yet! We've only been in our house for a little over a month, but it is starting to get a little cooler during the day and alot cooler during the night. We are getting it hooked up soon, hopefully just covering her up during the night is sufficient.
