How can I get Estrella to play with his toys more? He doesn't really play independently, he will swing and play with his preening toy while in his cage, but once I am home he is a velcro birdie.
We have quite a few toys for him, and a play pen but he isn't really interested in them...
Any advice or tips?

Christian, I've heard over and over how playful lovebirds are and how much they love toys but I can't tell you that Oliver doesn't play with toys at all. If it moves (other than the boings hanging from the ceiling) he doesn't get near it. The one toy he likes, in the four years I've had him, is a stack of popsicle sticks and I have to lay them on top of his cage, not hang them, or he won't touch the toy. I spent so much money, trying to find something he'd like, and finally gave up and started buying the popsicle sticks by the dozen! :D
Big Boi and Shy do like "some" toys but mostly toys that have sticks or soft wood they can chew on. They also love Oliver's popsicle sticks. :D When I find a toy that they really like, I immediately buy more of the same toy. Jackie (Butterfly) and I have compared toys when we're shopping together at bird fairs and it's amazing in the differences in what her flock likes and what my flock likes. Very different preferences!
I've also noticed that a particular toy might be very popular for a while and then, they don't play with it anymore. I remove toys that are ignored and then try them again, a few months later. Sometimes they are excited to see that toy again and sometimes they are just done with it for good. They are hard to figure out sometimes!

Peanut won't play with anything in his cage. But out of his cage, he will play with a clothespin (clipped to my shirt), a small pink spiky ball which he thinks is his girlfriend (!!), plastic toy coins, plastic straw, stuffed animal...oh and his favorite thing is to climb in his basket and throw toys out. Hmmm, nothing he plays with is an actual bird toy. Maybe Estrella thinks he is a human baby and not a bird :)

Pip must think he's a bird then because he just loves ANY toy! bird toy, or whatever toy he can find! I haven't found a toy that pip doesn't like so far! he even gets my teils hand me downs that they aren't interested in. If they don't like it----it never goes to waste because I can always count on pip loving it! He loves toys and plays with toys constantly! he is probably as playful as it gets! He does prefer to play with toys outside his cage----because when he's inside cage, he's not as happy.
