I know this is no big feat for most here on the board, but I had to tell everyone I know about it and now you guys get to hear/read about it!

When I first got Luna I had read on here or somewhere that lovies need to bathe 2 or 3 times a week. She wasn't doing this, or at least I didn't think she was, so I decided to put her in the kitchen sink for a bath. I proceeded to place her down in the sink and run water over her. She was livid!! Talk about lovies holding a grudge. She didn't want anything to do with me for the rest of the day or 1/2 of the next. She just sat in her cage and glared at me (this may have been my imagination, but then again...). So, I never tried that again :D. Well, Friday evening I got home early. I got her out and she was on my shoulder as I was cleaning up. I decided to wash the dishes... normally she will screech in my ear if I turn on the water faucet. Anyhoo, that day she didn't screech, infact, she stuck out her neck turning her head to look at the water. I have a stainless steel dish rack and she scooted down my arm and perched on it. Then I thought *she wants a bath* so I remembered reading that some people cup their hands under the running water and their birdies bathe in their hands. I did that! She climbed onto my arm and down to my hands. She dove right in. It was so funny!! There wasn't anyone home to enjoy it with me. I was grinning from ear to ear. I figure she is starting to molt so she was itching and must have been desperate for a bath. I know she bathes in her water dish, but it is small and she won't bathe any other way... I have tried.

Sorry this post is wordy, I never have been good at shortening stories... at least you got the written version. My mom was on the phone going "Okay Becky I get the point" :rotfl

Becky,

That is indeed one of the best feelings I have with my birds. To know that they trust me enough to bathe in my hands is something special, and that feeling you have is hard to explain, but I know it well.

That smile you had on your face was all about the fact that you and Luna have yet bonded even closer, and their just ain't nuttin like a birdie bond:)

Awwww, gotta love when they take baths----it's just the cutest thing! Fortunately Pip has always loved baths and takes them on his own in his own little bathing dish----it's shallow and made of some kind of heavy stone so it won't move or tip over.
I don't think it's your imagination though with them getting upset with you-----my boyfriend likes to chase pip around sometimes and play with him and pip doesn't like being handled, so he gets him to land somewhere and puts his hat over him and gets him! one time pip seemed to get so upset about it that he flew right back in his cage and just seemed to sit there pouting, and would not come back out! Him who hates being in his cage and loves his freedom of being out!

Becky, that brought a HUGE smile to my face! :D You've achieved something that I've tried to get my three to do forever! Big Boi and Shy will take a good bath in their bath bowl but Oliver (bless his little heart) still gets a forced bath...done by me! I would be very excited if mine would bathe in my hands! :D

Yep, that is true trust when they will bathe in your hands. Molly is the only lovies I have who will bathe like this. Everyother birdie bathes on a plate of water. Don't you just love to feel their wings lightly touch your hands? :clap

 He thought you needed a bath too :D.

I am glad you guys don't think I am silly. I couldn't quite explain the feeling either, but I sure was proud. It does feel silly when you tell a non-bird owner about it, but I didn't care. ;) Although, there is something to be said about a wet bird. Stinky! I was sitting there with her on my shoulder trying to figure out what the smell was. I figured it out... it was Luna alright! That is the only time since I have had her that I have noticed any odor.:x

yes they do smell...almost as bad as a wet dog! lol...i know cause when peaches is done with her bath i'm her towel! i've never tried the cupped hands yet but think i will. sounds enchanting. right now i put a little saucer on the table and she'll flutter down in it but before she does that i have to "click" water at her and get her wet before she comes to the bowl...and while she's bathing i scoop water up and pour it down her back. she loves it!

 That's the only way Jack has ever bathed. Boy, does he let me know how unhappy he is when he can hear the water running in the kitchen and I've been so neglectful as to not let him out!
I'm trying to get Chino to do the same, as he usually bathes in his water bowl. Yuck! I can't imagine him drinking after having his behind swishing around in there! :x
He's come very close a few times, so I don't think it'll be long. I'm going to get him a smaller water bowl. Maybe he'll really want to then.
Congrats on the new level of trust your baby has in you!
