Hello,

I am a stay at home mom that has just inherited 5 lovebirds!! They are they cutest little ones and they are all under 6 months old. Is it possible for me to tame all of them? I would love for them to be tame. I talk to them and they listen very attentively but when I put my hand in their cages they run away. They also have free reign of the house while I am not cooking is that ok also? Thanks:blush:

It's not impossible to tame 5 lovebirds. It will be challenging though. The first thing you want to do is clip their wings. You will need to spend one on one time with each one of them every day to get them used to you.
My birds also have free range of the house except the kitchen, so no, it's not a bad thing.

"Ditto" to Elle! :)

I have three lovies and the last two came to me as hand-fed and tame. The breeder that I got them from clipped their wings the day I picked them up and that was a tremendous help. After that, even though these were tame babies (10 weeks old when I got them) I still had to work with them individually for about a month before they decided to accept me as apart of their flock.

The wing clip, IMHO, is a must to start the taming process with that many lovies. Once they are tame, that might not be as important but don't forget about the dangers of a flighted birdie in the house.....open window or door, ceiling fans, flying into a window, etc.

I am curious, how in the world do you catch them when they need to be caged? I've spent up to a half hour trying to round up two of mine that are in a small bird room (12 X 14) and they are tame! :rotfl If that happens two times in a row, they get a clip! :D
