Feathers

Estrella is slowly going through his first molt, and I have noticed that the feathers right above his beak (between his eyes) and a few on his cheeks, look lighter than the rest on his head. They almost make him look like he has bald spots :rofl: but he doesn't I checked to make sure! The tips of the feathers are greyish...
Is this normal? Is this just a result of molting?

Hi Christian. This sounds normal to me. Usually the underlying part of the feathers are lighter in colour to begin with so molting will expose this. It sounds like those grey ones may be pin feathers starting to grow in. Most of those new pins will be noticable around the neck area and are the ones that cause a verbal exchange when touched sometimes. With the exception of the face and head area regular bathing and/or misting will help to alleviate the discomfort. Some poeple will mix a little aloe in the water too. :) .....................Michael and Goofy lovebird
