I was just wondering what size cages those of you that have a single lovebird have? Mine meets the minimum requirements for a single lovie, but I would really like to get one a bit bigger so that I can add more toys!! I saw one at Petsmart that I liked, but it has a roof that is A-shaped like a house, is this safe for lovie toes??

I have a flight cage for Pip, here is the pic......

Not sure the exact measurements, but here it is at Petco.....

I prefer the flight cages because they are wider and not higher and give lots of extra cage top to hang toys off of.
I got this cage for Pip, as his other cage that he came with was even smaller! I think this one allows him plenty of room, plus he spends alot more time out of it anyway! I was beginning to think I got this cage for him and put all these great toys in there and he never spends time in it! Then when I make him go in, he just sits in one spot and won't play with them! He seems to only want to play when he is out! recently though, he has started warming up to the cage and I have caught him playing with the toys while in his cage! I also got him a new boing! because he liked the one I got for the tiels, and he just loves it!

Before my birds paired up, I had one bird to each cage. Here's a picture of the cages I have - single or paired. Molly had this cage to himself for quite some time before he & Piper paired. http://www.imagestation.com/album/pictures.html?id=2107596515&idx=28

This is what Luna's looks like: http://i144.photobucket.com/albums/r165/beckgriffin/Luna/cage.jpg

While I got a good deal on it because it was slightly used, I wouldn't purchase it again because the shape of the top. It makes it hard to hang toys and place perches. You have to really think about where you are placing stuff in there. Also she likes to sit on the top of her cage sometimes and she has gotten the hang of it, but it was hard at first because she would slide down. It is hard to bolt things to the top (such as play gyms or perches) because of the shape also. I don't know how the one you are looking at is shaped, but sounds like it is probably a little more slanted if it looks like a house, so unless it is really big it may be hard to hang things and such... that is just my:2cents: :D

Hi Christian,

Did they have bird cages for sale at the bird fair you went to a few months ago? If they did and there will be another show/fair in the next few months, I'd wait and buy a cage there. I've seen cages at bird fairs for under $100 (closer to $75) that were 10 times better than anything you'll find at a chain retail pet store. I bought Oliver's sleep cage at Petsmart and paid $70 or $80 for it and it is a piece of crap compared to what I've seen at bird fairs. I won't replace it because he only uses that cage at night and he does not like change but I would never, if I had it to do over, buy any cage from the chain stores. Size and cost are both ridiculous compared to the cages I've seen at every single bird fair I've been to.

I really like Jackie's (Butterfly) cages and I think they ran her around $75 to $80 when she bought them at a bird fair. They are good quality, large enough to easily house two lovies with plenty of perches and toys and on a rolling table.

The cage janie refers to is the one I just bought for Fenway and Wrigley! The link to the site I used is above. If you email them for a shipping quote they will send it back within minutes. I paid a total of about 110.00, including shipping.

It's great! I highly recommend it if you have the space for it. I can even fit the boing in it, which amazed me.

I have that same big flight cage for my tiels----I guess I kinda thought it would be a waste to get Pip that big a cage because he spends so much time out of it! That, plus I think he likes the cozyness of the smaller cage and he hated the cage when we first got it--- He doesn't like change when it comes to his cage! So this cage is it! I think the size of it is perfect for him and plus he has lots of toys in there!

Yep, that's it. :) If you can find it at a bird fair, you'll save the shipping charge and pay around $75.00 total. I think it's a great cage for that price. My King's Cage retails at $499. and while it's bigger (and lord, it is heavier and the hardest thing I've ever had to assemble) I would be as happy with this cage. :)

I could crawl insid Ditto's cage if I could fit through the door.

You can see it in the background in picture 9. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=0Abt2Ldy1ct2LjA

I wouldn’t go any smaller than this: http://www.birdguys.com/t4-black-bird-cage.html

Some of the smaller parrot cages have guillotine style doors. I found the best way to deal with them are plastic cable or zips ties.

I'd opt to stay away from the cages that are shaped like houses, pagado or the dreaded "casbah" cage. There's a lot of wasted space with the bends, bows and peaks.

I really like the large flights, though! Well worth the investment from what I understand... It's a popular cage for budgies, lovies, cockatiels, parrotlets and even some of the smaller conures. I've even seen it used for sugar gliders!
