So my Christmas gift to myself backfired. I hired a cleaning service. I put the birds out on the screen porch for the day (nice weather here) and let them have at it.
But I think they used some kind of oven cleaner. Now when the oven heats up, there are fumes. Obviously I can't use my oven until I figure out how to get rid of the fumes.
Any suggestions?

Call back the service and find out what products they use....
I would leave birdies out as long as possible and run the oven for a few hours on 350 bake, and see if you can't just burn out the fumes...
good luck!

Thanks Kimmie, it was "Easy Off" supposedly fume free, safe for self cleaning ovens, etc. I'm going to try washing the oven out with soapy water, then rinse it, and then when I can get the birds and the dog out of the house for a few hours, I'll try running it.
I liked it better when the oven was dirty. At least I knew my fids were safe. :(

Sorry to hear this. Even tho the can may claim it's safe... don't assume so for birds. As you know they are extra sensitive to stuff like this. I would definitely clean out your oven thoroughly with very soapy hot water, let it sit a day, clean it out again (being sure to get every single surface), then set your birds on the porch if you can and let the fumes burn off for a while.
So scary isn't it?
Good luck!

Ew. Whatever it was, it turned the rinse water brown. :x I'm going to take a break for the night and continue with the lather-rinse-repeat tomorrow.
Or I might buy a new oven on the way home from work tomorrow. Oh, I'd probably get in trouble for that, wouldn't I?

Only if the hubby noticed it was different :D

Well, if you wanted to be absolutely certain nothing was left, I too would buy a new oven. LOL.

Gosh, I'm glad you can't see the inside of my oven. Yikes. Oh, and a new oven gets my vote, too!
