Rachel, I'll take your word for it. I can't bear to open this link or the one from Pip's mom. I know it would make me sick. :very_sad:

Why does it have to be so bad? They could make things a lot nicer by doing just a few simple things... it doesn't have to be like that, but profit is all they care about...

Also does anyone know if petco is as bad?
My friend at work who worked for petco says it is but does anyone know?
I've always had better service from petco, the one by my house takes a lot of time to socialize their birds and I've never seen animals bored out of their mind, they always seem rather contented and healthy...

My daddy had an old saying, "If you put 'em in a bag and shake 'em, don't know who'd come out first!"

I'm sure there are "good" Petsmarts and "good" Petco's but there certainly are bad ones, too. I've been to one Petco here (to buy a bird carrier) and the manager was totally bird knowledgeable. He told me that all Petco's require that a bird specialist be in every store but that has not been my experience. His store was great, bird quarters were clean and birds looked good, but most that I've been in were not.

The Petco near me seems pretty good too. I work with a guy who also works at Petco part time, and I have come to know the guy who is their bird specialist, and he seems ok too. Plus I visit the birds there and they always look happy and healthy! gotta wonder now though where the birds came from----I know the Petco here gets most of their birds somewhere in california. This has sure grown my interest in where my cockatiel came from before Petco. I think I am going to resume trying to find out now! I hope he came from a good place and not someplace like that one in texas.

I wish I had gotten my beezle from a breeder, but I didn't feel like driving 2 hours to get him and 2 hours back ya know? I bought him from a small privately owned store, not sure where they get their birds... I don't know what happened to Beezle before I got him and it kindof freaks me out :(

I couldn't quite stomach watching all the videos - it just hurts too much. But I did send my email...it was the least I could do.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention!

I too sent an email. I watched only one video, it was awful. Tomorrow at work I'll make a few girls watch the other two videos. Give them nightmares too.

Please, click on this link. The information provided may help to understand how these two retail giants managed to use adoption programs for their own benefit. Once you add in any charitable donations you will come to find these programs have had little to no effect on either companies overall expenditures. Another fact that may come as a surprise is "exotics" are excluded from most adoption programs leaving them open to continual abuse and neglect by various wholesale mills. And, this doesn't include birds, reptiles or other exotics poeple feel retailers sold that didn't supply them with their "money's worth". These types of pets are considered "non domesticated", which means so far they are exempt from any humane programs that would be of any benefit to them. http://www.avianwelfare.org/issues/articles/ppadvant.htm
