hey. i have a question that i can't seem to find the answer to. and was wondering if you guys had any idea.
i recycle and the only thing i haven't been recycling is newspaper because i use it for the birds cage lining. i was wondering if you could still recycle it even after they go on. my boyfriend brought it up and i'm like hmm, it has poop all over it, i don't think so??? i would think it would be unsanitary, but just wanted to check first if any of you guys recycled and knew.

Emily, I have wondered the same thing for years! I do not recycle newspaper after it's been pooped on but I really don't know if I could or not. Maybe I'll call the At. Journal Constitution and ask them. Wonder which department would handle a question like that? :D Better still, I'll call the company who collects our garbage and recycled products.

I also use newspaper on the bottom of my cages and I throw it away. In addition to poop, there's usually seed, discarded fresh food and anything else that a bird could think of adding to the mess. My macaws have to be the very worst! I doubt that anyone would want the paper after my crew gets done with it!

I recycle the newspaper after birds use it... I add it to the compost heap. I have a special area in the backyard(use to be a hole were a large tree stump was removed). We take the paper and add it. Then i turn it all over and use the mush for my flowers. I also throw leftover seeds out side for wild birds(and i think i have millet growing in the back yard..lol)

My uncle drives the trash trucks here and said as far as recycleing of newspaper it has to be dry and in good condition.
He suggested useing it as mulch or to catch car oil.
Oh and for those of you with hens there is recycleing it into confetti! lol
You know for some reason i never thought of planting my millet sticks.....I'll have to try that:)

I was going to suggest that. With all the extra organic material it would make great compost.
