For many reasons I avoid pet stores as of late. More so since the Pet-Smart health issue. But I went to a store today that actually made me smile. They only carry birds and fish. It was a huge surprise to walk into a store and see large cages, fresh food, water that was not dyed red,and not one bird I saw looked the least bit unhappy. The cages were not over crowded either. The owner was nice and friendly also. I did fall in love with a few birds but wisely left my money in the car.lol. I think my dilemma about were to get bird food has been ended. Just wanted to share a very positive pet store experience.

Wanted to add that the bird i fell truly in love with was a Scarlet chested parakeet. They were babies but so beautiful.

It is in Cartersville near the hospital. I found it a few months back when i needed a blood test done. But it was closed and I was not able to get there til now. We have several Georgia members and there is also a very nice one I am told in Atlanta but the name escapes my mind at the moment. This is the website for the store. http://www.landnseapets.com/

Just thought I'd add to this....I visited this pet store today...curiosity was killing me...

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this store! Karen, the owner, was fantastic! Everything Mummieeva said was true! Definitely worth the trip! Karen even helped me place my last baby lovebird in a good home!

---Sidenote-b/c I didn't ever post about the babies...we had three babies...two lutinos and one creamino. My friend Heidi (look for her to be joinging the board soon! ) chose one lutino and we are keeping the creamino. So, we had one lutino baby left which I was agonizing over finding a home for. Now, Karen has put my heart at ease--she recommended a friend of hers--and I trust her judgement based on the condition of her birds for sure!:D

So yes, I am now Mom to Melon, Lemon, and a creamino who is still nameless because we can't all agree yet... And so...I am now beginning my slow descent into being the crazy bird lady!!! LOL Thought you all would get a kick out of this...:lol

Now, off to cage cleaning....

The Atlanta store that Steph is referring to is located in Gwinnett County, right around Gwinnett Mall, called "The Aviarium" and sells birds and fish only. Family owned.

The store in your link looks very nice, Steph.

Hi Steph. Thanks for the positive report on Landseapets. Its about time we heard some good news regarding pet stores and the way they care for their pets. Lets just hope they stay in business for a good long time. By the way, that is one very beautiful scarlet chested parakeet :omg: in their "birds for sale" web page. Looks like their going to be building onto their website too. Might not be a bad place to order some decent seed mixes as their prices seem very reasonable. So have you named the parakeet yet?.... OOPS! I'm sorry, I forgot you left your finances in a safer place ...How thoughtless of me........

LOL trust me I look at that beauty often. I am so glad that you got to go there. Hopefully when I am down that way again I can drop in and look around more. As long as I remember my money stays in the car.lol.

Steph

P.S. Michael I would name him Neo

Finch hunting really has been in consideration long before asking my vets opinion about it. Sometimes though, I tend to think things through way too long which isn't good either. Right now I have many important responsibilities that includes caring for one lovebird. He fits in just fine now. Even though finches would take less time to manage, they too would have to receive the best care possible. Right now you could say I'm still working on finding the time as well as the benefits so that we would "ALL" be happy...............:)

Wow, Steph!
That's an interesting report! You don't find many pet shops of that caliber these days!

Wanted to add that the bird i fell truly in love with was a Scarlet chested parakeet. They were babies but so beautiful.I love SC Parakeets and I've bred them in the past. Gorgeous, just gorgeous birds!! However, the downside to their beauty is that they tend to have very short lifespans, even with the best of care. My oldest one died from natural causes at age 6.5. :(

Hi all!!

I'm the owner of the store mentioned here, and I have to tell you all, it is a wonderful thing to read a positive review about your work!

I try hard to provide happy healthy birds to good homes, and am simply thrilled that folks who visit left with a positive impression! If there's ever anything you see wrong in my shop, please call it to my attention, I'm not perfect by any means<G>

Hmmm... I may have to take a day trip to your store sometime. I live south of Atlanta (between ATL and Macon). When I find a good shop, driving to get there isn't an issue for me :D I do frequent The Aviarium in Gwinnett. Janie & I meet up there on occassion. I do get to the birdfairs since they are usually near me.

Hi Karen,
Our community is all about education and we are quick to give praise/references when we find a shop that treats their birds, fish and other animals as they should be treated. Too many shops are just about the money aspect of the business and many don't realize that reputation is a strong draw for clients. Even if your birds are a bit more expensive than a shop across town, I, personally, am willing to pay more for a bird that is tested healthy and treated as a live creature rather than saleable merchandise. :)
