Is it safe to paint the house with a bird here?

and also I am thinking of getting anoher love but notto pair them, I will keep them in separate rooms but if I have them both outtogether are they still going to bond or will my first one get jealous and try an attack.I love lovies haha, the one I have is so darn cute I want more:D

There were a few threads on here the last few days about the same topic. If you use the search function you should be able to find them.

After much research I decided that just one lovie is best for me. Add another, and many more problems can come up.

It is NOT safe to paint when your bird/s are nearby. You must find a room suitable that keeps them totally away from any fumes what so ever. I understand this is not always an easy task but its the only route to take, even if it means relocating to another home temporarily. Hopefully you have a large enough home were thats not your only option.

About adding another lovie. Unfortunately, there is really no way to predict the outcome as far as compatability. You may still though be able to increase the odds that they will be. Laura's suggestion of reading through the forums is a great idea as adding a second lovebird can be a wonderful experience for not only you, but for your single lovebird as well. One thing though, with exception to quarantine where they would remain in separate rooms for at least 30 days, housing them separately is generally not the main objective. When introducing another bird its usually prefered they can interact at the least without harm to each other. Really, there are many considerations to take before introducing a new lovebird that can make the introduction process a lot more easier. A quick example would be their gender and age along with whether or not your afforded the extra time to care for them. Another is the possibility of losing any bond you share with the lovebird you have now.

I understand your having some difficulty in navagating this website. I also know there's some issues regarding the sharing of your photo's. Believe me, I know first hand how frustrating and time consuming this can be. I hope somehow we can manage to help work this out as we'd really love to see any photo's you have to offer. Are you checking the little box next to where you type in your username and password? That should keep you signed in unless you "sign out" or happen to delete cookies in your browsers "internet options". Do you have an account with any of the free photo hosts (Photobucket, Flickr, Imageshack, etc) so that you can share links to your photo's? Where do you keep your current photo's on your computer?..............8o

Although fumes are something to avoid with your lovie, as long as the paint you are using is latex based your birds should be fine. If you can open a window in the room where you are painting to help with the fumes, this would be ideal. Usually, the fumes go away within about 24 hrs. I've painted several rooms in my house with latex paint and my birds never had a problem. You do NOT want to use oil based paint near your birds. This type of paint (oil-based) can be fatal.

Here are a few posts on this topic from the past: http://www.lovebirdsplus.com/community/showthread.php?t=4088&highlight=latex+paint and this one http://www.lovebirdsplus.com/community/showthread.php?t=9994&highlight=latex+paint

Its about time we get to see the little bugger :). And Kiwi certainly has that cute mischievous look too! I'm glad you managed to get things working a little more smoothly. Hopefully your painting won't be a big hassle too (thanks to me). My daughter also mentioned there's paint that has no fumes too. You know, I'm so protective of my pets I've been so reluctant to paint my interior walls for three years. And it shows too >o! At least with Jackies mention of latex paint along with my daughters suggestion, maybe this summer along with some added precaution I'll finally get to the rooms downstairs. Anyways, hope to see more pics of Kiwi in the future..........:)

Oil based paints and primers can be deadly to birds but latex is OK (in MY experience). I've used latex in areas with my birds close by. I've even painted with Oliver on my shoulder....accidently. Until my hubby mentioned that Oliver seemed interested in what I was doing, I had no idea he was there. Sometimes, with a velcro birdie, you get so used to him being there that you don't notice it. I was headed to work one day, half a mile from my house when I felt him move. I had no idea that Oliver was there or that I was still wearing my poop cape.
