I only have 1 vet in my town and I made an appointment to get Mardi's wings clipped and to look at her toenail and to get a dna test done and they had NO idea what a dna test on a bird was.
How am I going to find out what sex my bird is without it??
They said they had never done a dna test on a bird before...is it called something else?

Unfortunately, not all vets are familiar with birds, their husbandry and what would, for us, be normal health concerns and common knowledge. Studying birds in vet school is not mendatory.

You can get a DNA testing kit from one of the companies that do offer the service such as healthgene/ (http://www.healthgene.com/). You can get the samples with the assitance of a family member to pull out a few chest feathers. They provide you with instruction on how to get a good sample.

Many members have used these services with great success.
