Hi everyone. I thought I'd write and just say that Peachie is just fine after our frightening experience with getting her neck caught in a kitchen drawer. Luckily all she had was "soft tissue damage". A few days on anti-inflammatory drugs and antibiotics and some rest helped her get better. She is getting stronger, and is back to her old self. Actually, she is a little bit nicer, and not so "nesty". I think that cuddling in the towel while giving her the meds twice a day has made her see that it is okay to be gentle and quiet and mama won't hurt her after all.

She took the medication surprisingly well. Dr. said they were banana and raspberry flavored.

I plan on taking Peachie back for routine testing and DNA sexing as soon as I pay off the cost of this emergency visit............the routine tests and sexing can cost well over $400! Is this normal? Or is it just because I'm in Southern California? My income tax returns will help with this expense. :-)

While I was waiting for Peachie to get her x-rays done, I read an article from Bird Talk Magazine about "the day in the life of an avian vet" The article was about Dr. Nemetz, and included pictures and description of surgery on a lovebird.

Dr. Nemetz has a section with helpful literature that I found interesting and helpful. I thought some of you may like to see it as well.

Hey Holly,

I'm so glad to hear Peachie is on the mend!

$400 is a bit steep, but like you said, it could be a reasonable price in your area. The tests that Melody just had, a CBC and a Chlamydia test, came to about $350 for both.
