I just noticed that under Melody's breeder band, there was a dark spot on her leg that looked like a scab. I remembered seeing her picking at the band a few days ago. So I attempted to move it out of the way to get a better look at it. She yelped, then bit me.

That put me right into full blown emergency mode: OMG my bird is in pain OMG OMG OMG. After freaking out for a minute, wondering what in God's name this crazy bird did to hurt herself, and wondering how many more emergency vet visits my poor credit card can handle, I decided to try one more time to look at her leg.

Long story short: It was a seed hull.

I took a puncture wound to the cuticle for a seed hull. >o

that is tooo funny!! okay - maybe not for you when it was happening, ;) but just picturing the panicky moment and then finding a seed hull had me in stitches. :rotfl :rotfl
