Eddie has started making this clicking (or teeth chattering) noise while he squats and wiggles around while we sit on the couch.

What is this? Eddie is almost 5 months old.

eddie is doing the swishy swish dance - :D It is a sign of growing sexual maturity, but eddie seems young for that. The wigggling and squatting sounds like he is trying to find a place to masturbate  or to rub up against. It is an instinctual thing for birds, and it can be because you may have been petting him in a certain way that got him sexually charged without you even knowing it.

If I rub Kiwi's back, or under his wing, he gets going with the clicky click dance and then the swishy swish, so I try to aviod these areas. birds will be birds, so it looks like eddie is just be reaching sexual maturity.

Would a female do this?

I know that there are alot of behaviours that females will mimic, but having only a male, I am not sure if those with females have seen their hens do the clicky click dance or the swishy swish. I'm sure those with hens with have an answer. :)

oh my, yes! A girl will definitely do this. Jack began this behavior when he was about 4 1/2 months old. That's one of the reasons I thought he was a boy. He would mate with ANYTHING- paper towels, toys, my hand...
That was BEFORE he "turned into a girl" :nyah:
Can you all tell I'm still in denial?????

Indeed, the swishy dance is a dance of a sexual nature. My two boys perch and do it together.

Although there is no actual "mating" behavior, they click and turn, click and turn, scratch their heads, click and turn....

My mom always jokes about me and my two gay birds.

Hey...as long as they're healthy and happy, they have my blessings! ;)

I was watching Rico do his dance yesterday and still can't for the life of me understand what the whole scratching thing is about...???

Does anyone know the answer to this mystery?

I don't know about scratching, but Pip humps his favorite toy every day! He actually spends quite a bit of time doing this on and off during the day! I think it's the funniest thing to watch! I can tell now also that he is trying to regurgitate, I can see him trying and he almost does, but then his beak starts going and he seems to swallow it? but he really goes to town with the clickey dance and will even hump that rope toy as soon as he is up in the morning! Crazy birds!
