Ok I was a little premature about Mardi returning to her cage. She did it twice but is out again now and won't go back in. I cant be bothered with the chasing around and throwing a towel on her.Her cage is open,If she is out all night is this going to traumatise her more or will she be ok?
If she wont go back to her cage I am not going to make her but I hope she enjoys sleeping on the high bookshelf she has perched on all night.

Mydoona. I would "absolutely never" leave a lovebird unattended regardless if its night or day. So many things can happen that are entirely unexpected. Lovebirds have been know to position themselve's into spots we would never dream of leading to their loss be it disappearance, injury, or death. Please, find a way to safely return Mardi to her cage for the night. You may try to jiggle a couple coins/quarters/dimes in your hand to help attract her, maybe treats, or back to the towel, but she must be returned and not left alone.

I would recommend keeping her in the cage and working on finger taming. Once she likes to be with you, letting her out won't be such a pain when it becomes time to put her back.

I will often fall asleep with Eddie between my fingers, and this is bad because I could roll over and crush him. Your little birdie may come and land on you while you sleep, which wouldn't be good.

After the "wrangling" back the the cage I would use Michael's technique and give treats and praise. Before long, she'll catch on!

With Pip, I just get him to fly over to his cage on his playgym on top of it, and then I pick up the playgym and put it near the door of his cage. Most times he hops right off and goes in ok for me, but then there are times when he flies off and fights it and says----NO way! not goin back in! Keeping Pip clipped is a big part of being able to get him back in his cage----without a wing clip I would be in the same spot! Wing clip works wonders! and in about a week or so after the clip he is adjusted and flying around, just can't get very high, but they are smart little stinkers and will figure out ways to get where they want to go! Is Mardi clipped?? because if not, I would suggest you get her clipped and you will be amazed at how that little attitude is gone afterwards! and how easily she will go back in for you.
