So our babies are 3 weeks old:omg:

The problem now is that Homer (male) is mean to Marge(female). She comes to him for food and he gets upset...He was biting her today and I had to go and calm them down.

He is now feeding her but man is he grumpy...

They have had their spats before but this one seemed bad...I was wondering if anyone has suggestions...

If I separate them I am scared that Marge wouldn't feed the babies.
Thank you,
Becky N.

I'm sorry no one has replied to your post earlier. It's hard to say how bad the fight was. I know my birds really well and would be able to make a decision based on what I know about them and the situation.

I will say that most mothers feed the babies for the first two weeks or so. At three weeks it may very well be that the mother is still feeding them. I would not separate them unless the argument looks serious. I do know that lovies often scream as if they are being killed and they are not, but I don't want to make any assumptions cause serious things can happen. I would say keep and eye on how they interact and if it really looks like one of them is in danger then separate them. I also suggest you keep a close eye on the babies to make sure they are being fed and well cared for.

I have one baby being parent raised right now and look in on her daily. Of course, these are proven lovies who are absolutely wonderful parents so I don't have many concerns.

Good Luck and let us know how it's going.

Laura O,

Thank you for your reply. The birds seem to be getting along fine...just a small spat I take it,lol. I am keeping my eyes on them8o . I am also beginning to get to know them and learning their personalities. The babies are doing wonderful...they are getting so big. I am taking them out and playing with them and mom seems fine with that she does begin to get vocal when she wants them back. I must say getting these lovies has been a blessing...Of course my friends think I am crazy...but from what I hear on here that's normal

Thanks again...

I must get some pictures up soon of our lovie family!

My lovies have a love/hate relationship. One minute they will be preening each other and both sitting together on one perch, the next they are chasing each other around biting..it's usually my older one biting the younger one.
