Ok I only have two vets in the area and went to my closest.
BUT how barbaric are they??....I heard Keiko screaming from the other room as he was getting his wings clipped...it broke my heart.
Also he cut one wing and a little of the other but left the last longest two wings intact so now both Mardi and Keiko look deformed. He said it was fine and they glide down gently to the ground but when I got him home he tried to fly and fluttered down to the ground and tried so hard to fly again.....I felt so sad for him...i don't think I will be getting them clipped again...fly free....hopefully Mardi loves me by then (she was the reason I got it done in the first place).

What the vet did is called a show clip and it may be acceptable for shows but I hate to see it for just pets! You have the option to clip those last 2 outside primaries yourself but it will definitely affect flight ability.

Suggestion. Next time, if there's a next time, you have Keiko and Mardi's wings clipped, tell the vet to do it right there in the same room where you are or you go with them. You are the client and the vet needs to do what you want rather than what he wants! You have that right, even though most vets will not tell you that. Hey, you're paying the bill!

Keiko and Mardi will get use to limited flight, although it may take a couple of days. Hang in there. Those feathers will also be replaced by new ones as the clipped ones molt out.

its funny because the vet said 'Oh I will do it in the other room because they will hate it and hold you responsible if they see you and they hold a grudge for a long time' so I let him take them in the other room.

I could be wrong, I mean he is a vet and everything, but sounds like something he tells people so he doesn't have to deal with them being in the room and having questions and concerns... I could be totally wrong, though :D.

When my birds were clipped by their vet or at my favorite bird specialty store I always stayed with them. I wouldn't leave my kids alone with a pediatrician and I wouldn't leave my pets alone with a vet. Surgery, of course, would be the exception but for routine procedures, momma is gonna be right there.

I agree with Becky! When I go to the vet with my tiel who is clipped they always do it right there with me right there-----yet with Pip they do it at a pet store and take him away into a small room----just to be safe in case he got away! I don't mind it that they take him in another room without me----the girl is very experienced and knows what she is doing.
I wouldn't worry too much with the wing clip----lovies are very resiliant! tough little stinkers! and they adjust quickly in only a few days---the feathers will grow back quicker than you think! Takes Pip one month and he's back up on the curtain rods! I felt bad too though and those first few days he wasn't a very happy birdie! but they bounce back pretty quick!
