hi everyone, i recently got a new cage for my lovies, how long does it normally take for them to get used to it? its about twice the size in height from the old one. and now it seems rather bare cause all the toys they had from the old cage are now randomly placed in the new bigger cage, should i buy more? they have plenty of perches of different sizes, heights, textures, 3 different swings which came with the cage, and a hand full of toys, do i need anything else?

Krissie, Oliver was an older lovie when I adopted him and it took him close to 5 weeks to accept his new cage. His original was MUCH smaller and white. The new one was huge and black. It never occurred to me (DUH) that he'd have a problem with the change but he really is a bird that doesn't like any type change. When I partially cover his cage at night I have to place the sheet EXACTLY the way it is every single time! :lol Anyway, what I did was place his smaller cage, the old one, next to the new cage and just let him get used to it. He finally did. He still sleeps in a smaller cage at night and these days "his" larger cage is the community center during the day for all three.
Now, with Big Boi and Shy, I brought them home in a flight cage and then ordered their big cage which didn't arrive for a few weeks. They had ZERO problems in adapting to the new one. From the first second, they loved it.

Birds are so funny-----Pip HATED his new cage when I got it for him AND it's the same color and same size, only twice as wide! Took him months to get used to it! AND he isn't really bad about change either, so it took me by surprise that he would react this way! Each bird is different though and each cage is different also-----I guess you just never know with these little stinkers! They like what they like and don't like what they don't! AND.....make sure you know which is which!!! lol Sounds like you have pretty much everything you need there for the new cage-----I think I may have gotten an extra toy or two for the new cage, but you don't have to!

Ditto was just like those 2. He couldn't wait to get in the new cage. He jumped in before I was even finished putting it together. I had to put him back in his old one so I could finish. :lol
