Can lovebirds be jealous of other pets?

I have had Sam for about 3 weeks and she is sweet as she can be. But I also have a dog (also super sweet). I am trying to slowly get them used to each other, but the bird has a death wish!

The dog only seems interested in Sam when she is flapping. If she is just sitting on my shoulder, everyone is cool. The big problem is that Sam insists on trying to land on the dog. NOT COOL! Also when we are sitting around, Sam will crawl down my arm as fast as she can, bite the dog on the nose, then run back up my arm. She has only actually done this twice, but not for lack of trying. The vet suggested rewarding the dog with treats when it is calm around the bird, but Sam insists on getting into the dog treats and only makes matters worse. Really, the dog is not the problem. I can control her.

I was thinking about a tether for the bird so we can have some positive together time without attack bird issues. Maybe just 10 minutes a night where everyone is sitting watching tv and not trying to peck or eat each other? Do they even make tethers small enough for lovebirds?

Does anyone have any input on this situation? Obviously, Sam's safety is my biggest concern. The dog is 60 lbs and can defend herself. But I just feel like I have been spending all my time with Sam and neglecting my princess puppy.

Ah, the joys of animal ownership!

My lovebird wil not leave my dog alone!!! Shenzi is 75 lbs and the BEST DOG EVER- Jack is 60 grams and all attitude.
If Shenzi is lying in the living room, Jack will fly to her, get on the floor and run up to her, bite her tail if she wags it near us.
No matter what Jack does, Shenzi will either freeze until I come and get Jack, or just roll her eyes and take a deep breath as if to say "Why did you have to bring this THING into the house? I give up."
Most of the time I put Shenzi in the other room when Jack is out, though.
I trust Shenzi 200% with Jack... BUT...
Even a human could react out of instinct and swat at something that landed with a claw in their eye by accident.
Jack is never in a room unsupervised, and if Shenzi's there, too, I'm right next to her protecting her from Birdzilla.

I would make them have separate time out with you. Have Sam out with you for a bit with dog outside or in another room. Then put Sam up and dog gets play time. While the dog is not interested now anything can happen. With dog and cat saliva harmful to birds I would not risk it. Also one day Sam could nip the dog and the dog reacts and Sam could be hurt. We have a dog and a cat and both are put up when Drac has out of cage time. The few tethers i have seen are not lovebird size. I would hesitate to use them also as I would be scared it would do more harm them good in a small bird.

I have a very similar problem: The dog is good as gold, but the nosy birds are constantly trying to stir up trouble. Poor dog knows that I'll flip out if the birds get too close to her, and has now started leaving the room voluntarily when she sees the birds out of their cage. If they are in the same room, I don't turn my back on them for even a second, and I'm always right in the middle of things.
