Can anyone tell me how far the hood should go on an opaline BABY lovebird? Aslo, do the tails tell the sign as well?

Depending on the Opaline mutation,there can be a lot of variation in how far the hood goes on the head. Most don't go down to the nape of the neck, especially in babies. In determining Opaline, I look at the rump feathering. It should be the same color as the back.

Thanks Linda. My one lutino has a beautiful salmon color on the face, bib and over the brow and has the most beautiful brilliant yellow and now red coloring coming in on the tail. I know that the greens are definitely opaline and I am thinking that this lutino will be also. The red that is coming in matches exactly to the opaline mother. Now the other orangefaced one, (though being the youngest one) does not have the red....yet! ;) The youngest one also does not have the brow or head coloring that the others have yet. We will give it some time and see.
