Linda, I didn't see it last night but did catch a show a couple days ago on Animal Planet about parrots, specifically Griffin, and the woman who works with him feels sure he really knows what he's doing rather than memorizing the way Einstein did.

OK, never mind, I just looked at your link and it's the same show I saw a few days ago. Just GREAT! :D That's why I have lovebirds instead of Grey's......I'm not smart enough for a grey! :lol

I thought the video was interesting! I knew Dr. Pepperberg was working with at least one other Grey (Griffin) besides Alex but it was my understanding that Griffin was no where near as advanced as Alex was. I didn't get that impression from the video as I watched it.

As for Griffin being more advanced than Einstein, I would say that he is. Einstein is used to a routine so it's no test of what he really knows.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the video! :)

Thanks for the video--I started watching it at work and then realized how long it was, so will finish at home. Since I don't watch/own television it's cool that they put the clips on the Internet. Thanks bunches, I look forward to it! (I keep saying my next parrot will be a Grey.)

I'm downloading that one so I can watch it later on the TV. Ditto will love it.

I wonder if Dr. Pepperberg would work with Ditto.

I was finally able to watch the video last night and found it interesting. I especially liked the way they are teaching Griffin through observational learning. Through watching my lovies raise young over the years, I've noticed this is how parents often teach their young...........I had also read previously that Griffin was surpassing Alex in some of his learning, but this may not be because Griffin is smarter, but the ways in which the institute is teaching the birds is improving.

I remember Alex! I didn't know that he became an "ex parrot" though.. :(
I love African grays, they are so beautiful, but I know I could never spend nearly enough time with one to make sure they were totally happy :P

I cried when they were talking about how she put Alex in the cage for the night... did you see how EMPTY that cage was! No toys... and Alex looked so sad with his plucked self..and still the "I love you!" Made me cry and take out my lovie to play.
