I recently got a 6 month old parent raised peach faced lovebird. The previous owner could no longer keep her because her dog and the bird did not get a long. I just got her 4 days ago, and she is very curious about her new surroundings. Two days ago, I opened the cage door and let her come out of her cage at will. Well, she came out flew around the room, chirped loudly at first but then settled down. A little while later she flew into her cage and ate, but then flew back out. I waited for a while to see if she would go back into her cage and after 2 hours she didnt go back, so I had no other choice but to catch her and put her back in her cage. I have been doing a lot of research, and have read many places that it is a good sign that the new lovebird wants to explore, and is getting used to her surroundings. She actually tries to open her cage door and get out.I have been going up to her cage and talking to her, and she doesnt run away from me. So I was wondering if it would be a good time for me to start putting my hand in her cage and offering her treats? I also had read at many places that it's a good idea to clip the bird's wings so it would not put itself in danger,a nd also that it would be easier to tame her. So yesterday I went and clipped her wings. I was also wondering if it was okay that her cage is placed in a room upstairs where, it is quiet with little activity??

A bird during waking hours should be were everyone else is. Like in a living room or other room you are in alot. They need quiet at night time to sleep but not during the day. Talking to your bird is a great way to get them use to you also. Myself and all my family frequently talk and whistle to our bird Drac. You can try placing your hand in the cage with treats. Some birds are OK with it others are not. Some birds see the cage as their home and will defend it accordingly. Others will not mind. Taking your bird to a small and safe room with dim lights has helped many tame their birds. Just be patient and remember it can take a long time for some birds to adjust.
