Hello everyone! I just had a question about Lovebird moulting. We have a 4 year old Peach-faced lovie named Bella who is presumably male and bonded to me. My question is what is considered normal for moulting? When does it usually happen, and how long should it last? Thanks for any insight you can give us.

Lovebirds will typically molt twice/yr. Right now, I've got molting birds all over the place and enough feathers to create several full size feather pillows! Birds will actually lose feathers all the time but the times when they molt are just much heavier in the feather loss department. A molt can last anywhere from 3-4 weeks.

Thanks for the reply, Linda. Its a relief to know that feather loss is a normal part of moulting. I was starting to get worried about how many feathers Bella had been losing lately, as we've recently changed his diet a bit, and didn't know if that was related.
