Very excited to get little Noah. My birthday is this upcoming Tuesday. November 11, 2008! I visited my little bird and it seemed to like my mother more than me. It wouldn't sit on my shoulder very long until it tried to fly away. Will this change? I know he/she doesn't know me that well but I hope I get a bird that at least likes me!

yes it will change once you get it home and it bonds w/ you. birds have such short attention span (or at least mine does) so it probably flew away cuz it saw something else. Who knows right? What kind of bird is it?

Don't worry, lovies are funny. One day Eddie loves my boyfriend and won't come to me, and then another he is biting him!

Just one of the 1,000,000 reasons a lovebird keeps us entertained. :)

Oh, okay! I hope he/she likes me! it is a green peached face lovebird baby. About 10 weeks I believe. So pretty! But they cut the lovebirds tail feathers to tell him/her apart from the others. Will they grow back?

They won't grow back, but they will eventually molt out. They will be replaced with new one. I believe around 5 months of age.

That is strange, I haven't heard of that before. Where is your lovie coming from?

Strange way of marking a bird but you will definitely know which one is yours! The cut feathers will molt out somewhere between 4-6 months and you will never know any of them had been clipped.

Banding is the easy way to tell birds apart because each band has a unique number on it. When I'm dealing with unbanded babies, I usually use a bit of marker and color the feathers on the head just a little bit. Those feathers molt first so the mark will go away the quickest.

They cut the tail feathers. He/She is a hand fed, Hand Raised baby lovebird coming from a little pet store that has people who hand raise the love birds. The lady takes them with her everywhere. She brings them home with her and takes them to the pet store when she is working (she works there). She breeds the lovebirds and has the parents also there at the pet store. The tail feathers don't look bad but I liked them longer.

Lovebirds have tiny tail feathers. I think it is nice. Long ones seem to get in the way.

And some lovebirds--namely Buddy--have no tail feathers :( She definately looks front end heavy. And when her last tail feather molted out, her balance went with it :omg: It was amazing what a difference losing that last tail feather made! New ones keep trying to come in but she "nips them in the bud"--little stinker. Wish she let them be :(

Maybe she was a kiwi or a little button quail in her previous life, or has identity issues and thinks she's a kiwi or quail?? :rotfl
