I caught this on camera. Is he mating my hair? He keeps making these clucking noises and this happens when he's on my head. He also bobs his head up and down like he's gonna regurgitate. What can I do? Isn't he kinda young to know anything about mating?

Here's the link to my youtube

^ Kano is a girl and she rubs herself aaaaaaaaaaaall up and down her Happy Hut like that, but harder. *lol* I think she sometimes even "O's" 'cause she'll do it for a while, then all of a sudden look like she's seizing and flaps her wings... then done. :rotfl

It is funny, but she's got a bald patch by her rectum 'cause she frequented the Happy Hut so often!! Come to think of it, ever since I replaced her old one (she WORE IT OUT) I haven't really seen her do it anymore... I replaced it with the exact same brand, same color... but I guess she knows. Her lover is gone and the new one won't replace it!! :rotfl

I know some owners discourage mating behavior, but i've never had too much of a problem with it. I let my lovies "court" me with the clicky dance & some regurgitation, and when they start doing the swishy with their butts, i find a stuffed animal for their humpy toy that they're willing to "love".

Mine only have access to the humpy toy outside their cages, though. I find that that way I can make sure they give it a rest! LOL

That video is priceless. I know from reading the responses it's the mating dance, but to me it looks like he's thinking- so my human won't give me toilet paper, we'll see about that!

I don't like to have Sammy try to hump any part of me. He's got a pseudo-mate sex toy we call Fuzzy Frog; found it in a pet store in the squeak toy section. It's roughly the same size as Sammy (not that it seems to matter), and it's got a lot of green like his.

Fuzzy Frog is also machine washable.

Added: Hey, it might be the headband he's most attracted to. Do you wear it all the time? Try taking it off next time you bring him out, see if he behaves the same way.

no, i hardly wear my headband. I just wore it at that moment, but he does behave the same way. A fuzzy frog huh? Guess I'll have to go look at the squeak toy section today then. haha.

Yes, because he is doing the mating dance, clicking and trying to hump your head, I believe that there is a good chance that you got yourself a boy there.....although with lovies, it's sometimes hard to tell, and a few of them on here have fooled their owners about their sex.....most thought they had a boy and ended up getting an egg, so I guess you never know for sure 100% unless you have a DNA test.......but I feel pretty sure my Pip is a boy, sure enough to not test him. Pip loves soft toys to hump. Nice and soft and fluffy things.....his regular hump toy is a soft rope tied in a knot...it came in a bucket of foot toys I had bought. He also tries to hump Ivy's big swing....it's all covered in soft felt pieces and has one of those rope things like his humpy rope on top and he tries to hump that one too! So something small, cozy and soft. I also leave his hump toys out of his cage on top of it......this way he humps while he is out and it gives me a break for a little while from chasing him around when he's up to no good!
Pip loves being on my head! but luckily, he doesn't think of it as a good thing to hump! Now you know why they're called LOVEbirds! :rotfl

Yellow Bird loves the knot at the end of his boing (springy rope perch) when Tourmaline isn't receptive to his attentions.

Well, it's official. YOU are Joey's "chosen one". And Joey being as cute as he is, maybe your boyfriend has cause to worry? Just kidding. It was just this dance, also on my head, that resulted in my first lovie's name change--from Katie to Bo. Oh, and the scratching is part of the "dance" Bo did the dance every time he greeted me. And there was no stopping him until he completed the whole  dance. I definately recommend a humpy toy! I think HalleBoppPeachylov's combination of foreplay with human followed by a stuffed/toy surrogate a brilliant solution. I tried the surrogate part only and that was a dismal failure. Bo got as mean as the meanest nesty hen :omg: It just might have worked for both of us if I had used HalleBopp's "method". Welcome to the world of LOVEbirds

He's definitely mating with your head! My just over 1 year old lovie Ducky does the same thing so I've starting wearing a small towel on my head. He also likes to mate with a paper bag on top of my other lovie's cage (Squeaky watches this with disgust and then gives Ducky a little nip!) Poor lovies want some lovin') I haven't given him a humping toy yet!

Hahaha. Too funny. I was thinking about wearing a towel too, but decided against it in case he liked the towel.

Ducky does like the towel but not as much as my hair!! At least I get a little peace. The funny thing is that Ducky has taught Squeaky to hang out on my head too. These birds are too funny!

I'm so glad it's in the "amused" way because, unless your little Kath has been DNAd, you may be joining this conversation one day. And, if Kath is, indeed, a hen, you may be joining the "nesty devil hen" thread. Either way, 'tis best to be amused by it all, since there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop a lovie from doing whatever it wants to do. :rotfl

My Jack- who I prayed was male (until she laid her first clutch of 6) began humping everything at 4 months. She is VERY amorous still at almost 2 yrs.
Paper towels, jingle balls, my hand (eww), rope toys, anything at all.
Sometimes all I have to do is begin to approach the cage, and she clicks, kisses, dances, and spreads her wings in anticipation.

Aww, I'm going to feel bad if Kath is like that. . . needs a companion or something! But I guess that could be a human.

At first I tried a showercap but it was really hot!!!  And Ducky was terrified of it and wouldn't go anywhere near me. :( So then I tried a brightly coloured scarf and got the same reaction. So, now it is the towel. I know I look ridiculous with a towel and 2 birds on my head. So I just ask my brother-in-law if he likes my new hat!! :rotfl

Eddie does this too. I think the hair is "very exciting" to them!

He LOVES his "happy huts" of any material. Anytime I take one out to wash it and I put a new one in, he gets very "HAPPY!"
