So little miss Evolet is kinda flighty. She def does not like to be petted, but she's fallen asleep on me a few times. I take this as a good sign? She'll only handle my petting if Joey is with us (poor thing must be annoyed w/ me and joey trying to always touch her...that's what happens when you're so darn cute ), but when it's just me and her, it's a different story. She'd much rather sit on my fingers than let me touch her.
As far as her and Joey, seriously, Joey is so in love. He does his mating dance, clicks, regurgitates, feeds her, is always on her, preening her, etc...*sigh* I remember when he used to be crazy about me. Now I'm really just the mom and no longer the mate. At least he still likes me :)

Awwwww... I'm sure most of us have been in the same boat as you!! And that boat does suck!! But at least your babies are healthy and happy and even though they may not show it all the time - they lurve you!!
At least your boyfriend will be happy joey's interests have gone somewhere else... lol.
I think sleeping is a very good sign.. its like they let their defense down when they sleep on us. It'll take time with her re: touching.. You haven't have her for very long. I can only just touch elmo's back now.. only if I distract him with millet hahahaha..

All of this can be considered a good sign! Birds are vulnerable when they sleep so falling asleep on you means she feels safe with you.

This is actually a very healthy thing for Joey! He needs to recognize another lovebird as a mate rather than a human. It's my own preference not to be a mate! Make no mistake about it! Joey still loves you and that will always be the case unless something happens to damage the trust relationship. He just recognizes the difference between human and bird. Wish I could convince Echo that he needs an Abby hen for a cage companion!!!!!!!
Linda you'll have to go out and get Abby some new clothes..feathers.. ;)

Sounds like your birds really have the best of both worlds. You know, I don't think there's any better position to be in than that of a human having been accepted as part of the flock. Or perhaps as flock mommy/leader?.....Obviously, many of us strive to interact with our birds in hopes of having a snuggling/cuddling relationship. For some though, I've always felt there was a fine line between whats considered a healthy one and what is not. If I'm correct, your being "Just the mom" is the highest ranking position we know of when it comes to parrot guardianship. Although most of the time we'd much rather refer to such individuals as being "fidparents".............:)
