As many of you have followed the ongoing saga of Lily and Lucky, I will cut to the point. Lily is the mother of Lucky. Lily's spouse Lionel died and I was hoping that Lily and Lucky could be friends. However, Lily got hormonal and made Lucky's exsistence with her very bad. She was constantly biting him, etc. etc. I moved them into two separate cages. By the way, they are not hand tamed. So, now.....they spend lots of time up against the bars in their cages which are right next to each other chatting, etc. Is it safe to move Lucky back in or just leave things as they are. I do not know Lucky's gender.
Thanks. Helen

I would not move them back in together without giving them some out of cage time together in order for them to get to know each other outside the cage. It could be that Lilly is biting Lucky because she 1) wants to mate and Lucky doesn't know what to do or is not interested or 2) she wants Lucky out of her cage cause she's territorial.
Even birds who are not handtame can be trained enough to have out of the cage time, and it really is our responsibility to do what we can to give our birds time out of the cage. Birds are intelligent animals who love to explore and play. I suggest clipping their wings and start letting them come out on their own, which you can do by opening their cages for awhile everyday. If they are not used to coming out, this may take awhile so be patient. You can also commit some time to stick training them in order to step up. This has done WONDERS for my flock and I have plenty of lovebirdies who are not handtame that I can let out of their cages daily and put to bed because they are stick trained.
Good Luck and let us know how things go
