Many who know me know I have wanted a Parrotlet for many years. I tried to wait and offer one a home.
It seemed I was always too late or too far away. Also well it seems not many need new homes.

This Christmas I decided it was time to get me a baby. In all honesty except the few i bred myself I have never owned a baby bird. They have always been adopted or rescues or fosters.
So this is my very first ever baby bird that is all mine forever and ever. How cool is that.

It just hit me how much I missed a hands on bird when the 2 Lovebirds I was fostering went to their new home. I have to admit I thought of adopting but the call came and well i did not want to block a adoption. The family seemed really great too. They had a large cage and had owned another one in the past and so had experience So they were going to a great home.

But it still left me all alone just me and the Canaries

So I contacted a lady and she said she had one little male green one in my price range.
I picked him up 2 Saturdays ago.
His name is Brooklyn. He is a handful and such a little dickens.
I adore him.

The lady who i got him from did not have any toys in the cage and she only fed him pellets

He is 8 months and is growing more loving by the day. At first I could not give scritches he has quickly learned though that those are good things. :)

He also is eating a little seed, Nutriberries, Beak Appetitie, Veggies, fruit I give a little something new every couple days so as not to overwhelm him.
When I try a new thing i make a big deal and say Yummy num nums and he digs in with gusto. Some things he does not care for Spinach is one Kale he likes though Apples and carrots and broccoli are all on the good list. So he does not dislike a lot.

Anyway I am a Happy new Mom for the very first time to a new baby and I am thrilled and had to share even if it is not a lovebird.

here he is

My boyfriend rescued a parrotlet from a family who never let him and kept him in a cage with 3 wooden perches and thats it, he is very very scared but slowly gets brave now and then for seeds! He is addicted to seeds and will not eat pellets no matter how hard we try and he is very scruffy bless him! But, im glad we saved him! They are cute little things, yours is lovely! Glad you got what you wanted! :D

Wow April!.....Brooklyn sure is an adorable little fellow! Glad you could share him with us......While I can't see the wings to good, he definitely looks to be male by the blue dash on his head. You know, I heard there was also a blue mutation going on somewhere's in Europe. Oooh, if I were only 20 years younger, I think I would soon be courting a "parrotlet".

Thanks Everyone.
HAPPY NEW YEAR by the way.

Brooklyn is coming along wonderful. He is finally taking scritches, and he is learning to stay on me or the desk or his cage when out. Instead of ending up all over the room under beds on canary cages. Poor Canaries thing they are under attack.

He is also since his cage is next to my bed has now decided that 8:30 is the time I need to be up.
Every morning he sits on the perch closest to me and chatters in his tiny voice until I say Good Morning Brooky I am up. At that point he goes back to playing and makes no more noise. Even if i go back to sleep. Silly lil bird. Next week we will be back on early am schedule for the youngest to head back to school so I will be waking him up early. :)
He is now sitting on my shoulder working his way around to the opther fixing my hair. he does this each morning. He then uses my hair as a rope and pulls himself up till he is on my head. I have a picture and if you promise not to look at my double chin I will share it :rotfl

Jally it is so great we are on a group together. This is a great group and Linda is amazing with her birds as are the others here.

Not that you need any help with Peanut I swear I am ready to bird nap him If he had stayed in my hood I would have walked out the door that day and brought him with me. Such a Sweet little guy.

Anyone know of some forums for Parrotlet owners I am open to links So that way I am not babbling to you all about a parrotlet too much.

April, welcome to our forum. I enjoyed reading about your little boy, especially how he makes sure that you are up at a certain time. So cute!
Forum for plets: Talk Parrotlets is v. good

Plets need extra vit. A in their diet and Volkman's makes special parrotlet seed mix that I'd recommend. I think it is called Volkman's Parrotlet Super.
All my birds eat this mix.

Thank you I actually just signed up over at that forum this morning :)
I will check out the Volkmans seed mix for P-lettes. Do they sell it in stores or do you have to order online?

I will check into it
I want to get him a new larger cage and was looking on Ebay this morning i have never shopped on there before but there are quite a few nice ones posted. I may have to give this Ebay thing a try at the prices they have posted.
