...would you ask me this question?

We had some people over for dinner this past weekend. They were ooing and ahhing over my birds, asking if they talk (Chino does, a little), do I really let them fly around in my house?

Anyway, we got on the subject of my having handfed Jack from the time she was still pretty much bald.
One of the women asked me how I did it. I said I did it all night, in the morning, came home for lunch, etc, etc.
She says "No, but HOW do you do it?" ... I said a syringe. (duh, right?)

 Next she says "With milk?" :omg: I thought she was kidding, so I chuckled and said, No, it's formula made especially for birds.

:rotfl:happy::rotfl To my astonishment, she totally innocently says "Out of bird milk?":omg::omg::omg:

You may be able to guess that this woman owns no pets.

WOW

Ha! Sometimes I think questions like that mean that people should take rudimentary biology again.

I love this!

There are no stupid questions--just stupid people.

It's like when tourist come to Hawaii and I get asked if I've ever been to America and if the whales swim under the islands.

Oh yes... lots of kinds! And they don't ask about the continental US, they are serious about us not having been to "America". I've been asked if we need a passport to travel to the "USA" neverminding the fact they didn't need one to get here. One of my friends was at a conference once on the east coast, and when asked where she was from, she replied "Hawaii" and the person who asked her exclaimed "Oh! You're one of those international students!"

but "bird milk" takes the cake!!:rotfl

Actually that really doesn't surprise me......I find that people who don't have birds usually know absolutely nothing about them! They ALWAYS will say.....you just let them fly around your house??? and do they poop? Uhhh, yeah! they poop!
What's sad is people like this will go into a pet store and see a pretty bird and take it home totally clueless and then wonder why it only lived for a week or two :(

Had to add a comment about the Hawaii ignorance. It gets even worse when people like this meet folks from other countries.

My husband was born in Canada. In a town about 60 miles north of Buffalo, NY. People find out he's from Canada and start asking him about igloos and penguins. I guess people think there are penguins that just wander the streets as soon as you hit the Canadian border.

I think I can top this one. Years ago when I was in my late teens, I was chatting with a guy and he viewed my profile with photo. He asked me why I was wearing clothes!! He thought we just walk around naked or with coconut bras and grass skirts. Yes, yes, we really do walk around naked because we're primitive enough to not have clothing yet I can chat with you ONLINE on a COMPUTER. Yeah. Okay buddy.

Then in my early 20's I picked up an acquaintance to hang out. I forgot what led into the topic but I had told him my brother is gay. He looked at me and SERIOUSLY asked, "So are you half-gay?" I looked dumbfounded and asked if he was serious. He said he thought it was genetic so if my brother is gay and I'm related to him, I must be half-gay. Think I hung out with him ever again? Puts meaning to the label "Jarhead." (Marines) *lol*

I knocked on someone's door once and the neighbor told me that he had gone to Hawaii and would be "out of the country for three weeks." She acted like he had to take his passport and was going abroad.

Another time, a friend was helping her mom move across country and they were selling everything at a garage sale. Someone complained that the flag only had 50 stars and why were certain states missing? Was this flag from before Hawaii and Alaska got added? And they wanted an additional discount because the price should reflect that! :very_sad:

Ive heard some pretty bad ones too when i tell ppl i have 9 birds. Main questions are ..do you let them fly everywhere..dont they poop everywhere..arent they loud..arent they messy...the list goes on. I was explaining to a co-worker the other day about "crops". Her tiel kept making a yawning motion and she was asking me why. I explained to her that she was adjusting her crop..come to find out she had no idea what a crop was. So i had to explain. While explaining I had a customer listening (didnt notice) and she was like WOW REALLY? They have those under their feathers? But i think she really didnt believe me lol

A friend of mine does hummingbird rescue and it's not unusual for people to try and feed them milk before they call her. One woman fed the hummer breast milk and said it's the most natural food there is. She told her for a human baby but not a hummingbird.

I had a friend ask us which one lays the egg, the momma or the daddy.

And as bad....we have cattle. After explaining to a child whose parents were visiting the ranch what an udder was....the mother said "See why I don't let you drink milk, it comes from back there". That was the same woman who asked which one gives birth to the baby, the cow or the bull?
No experience...no knowledge...so sad.

You could have led that one along for a while and had her thinking that birds were breastfed:rofl:
