Anyone here have any experience with heated perches? Are they a good idea? i was thinking of getting one for Zoe because our living room gets chilly at night, and I left her cage in there one night, only to get out of bed a half hour later to move her into my room where it is warmer and easier to heat than the living room. I would love to hear anyone's opinions...good or bad. Thanks-
Cindy

As I've seen Linda say

NO NO NO NO NO!!!!

Apparently, they can overheat and burn little birdy feet.

And Linda will repeat: NO! NO! NO! NO! NO!

The heat gets too hot and many birds have been badly burned by heated perches!

That is what I was wondering about. Well-then Zoe will just sleep in my room at night then! No heated perches for her!! How can they continue to sell that stuff that can hurt our pets?

There are not a lot of vendors/sellers that really care about pet safety. Bottom line concern is the almighty dollar and profit! As always, with any purchase, buyer beware and do your research!!

Have you ever used a down comforter? They are so snuggly and warm. Feathers are great insulators against the cold. Think about all the birds outside who manage to keep themselves warm with their feathers. That always just amazes me--especially in our cold northern winters.

They do require more food when it is cold though.

My guess is that Zoe would be warm and toasty with her feathers fluffed up unless your living room gets below 50°.

But, I think you like having her with you too!

I second that--both of those "that's"

My vet told me it's not the cold that is the problem for caged birds. It's drafts. I expect that if you can bear to be in the room, it's not too cold for Zoe. Who does, after all, have her very own down comforter.

Well--that makes me feel better then. She is just so tiny, but yes...she does have her very own down comforter. I don't mind bringing her cage into my room at night and knowing she is close by, but I don't want to stress her out by constantly moving her cage back and forth. My goal is to make a playstand next week for in my room, and then i can just carry her back and forth. It definitely does not get below 50 in my living room, and I do cover her cage at night, so I'm guessing then that she should be ok. Oh---all these things we must keep track of as new parronts!!!:happy:But I love it...wouldn't trade it fer nuthin'!!

I have one of those heated perches, but never tried it. (I guess now that appears to be a good move)

I thought I had read somewhere that birds can actually be in a cold room, just not one that is drafty.

My babes have birdy beds and that seems to keep them toasty at night.
