I've had peachface lovies. I grew up with a pair of green peachface- an ornery vicious hen and a sweet docile male, and my beloved Enko chan was a white face mutation. In six weeks or so I will be adopting a baby blue mask. I know that they are of a different species and that there are certain visual differences, but I am curious about behavioral differences between Peach and Mask. I've researched around, and there are only a few little differences like Peach hens tuck nesting materials in their rump, and Mask hens do not. For the most part though, information on behavioral differences is all quite vague. I would love to hear about your experiences!

I have read in books that the peachfaces tend to be bolder and also smarter. Pip sure fits that description! I myself, prefer the peachies and would get another peachface if I were to get another lovie in the future.

I know we'll love our new baby unconditionally, and I am happy to have a new experience with a Mask. It won't be for 6 weeks or so, but I've handled many of this breeder's baby lovies and they've all been incredibly sweet. The breeder is very loving and does a wonderful job socializing her birds. Any goodness in a lovie that early nurture can account for will be present in this little one. I've been reading about Masks ever since I decided to reserve one, and so far I've heard that Masks are "easier to tame and make better pets" and that they are "more skittish and difficult to tame than peachface" "more aggressive" "less aggressive"... and many more vague answers at either end of many a dichotomy. It seems like experience is rather varied, and runs more according to the individual birds than being species-linked. I am happy to hear what all of you have to say, though. I want to hear about all kinds of experience! Most of all, I am wondering if there is anything specific to care of a Masked lovebird vs. a Peachface,

While I have read that peachies tend to be more outgoing than their eye-ring cousins, I think that a lot has to do with how a lovebird was raised. If the baby has had a lot of gentle, positive human interaction there's a good chance that s/he will be friendly no matter what the species :)
