I went to the pet store to get some El Paso Nutriberries, since Mika and Kano haven't tried that flavor yet. I went browsing at the lovebirds - of course - and wanted to take them all home, naturally!! There were a few PF Olives, an American Cinnamon, a DF Dutch Blue, Opalines and.......

ONE EDGED DILUTE!!

The price card said "American White" but from what I've been reading online that's just another name for Edged Dilute. The penciling on the wings weren't anywhere near how Mika's wings look, but it was there... and this bird had Mika's EXACT rump coloring.

The pet store didn't know what the parents are or how old the bird is. The black on the beak is gone. No apricot brow (so far). I'm guessing it's still relatively young 'cause she/he was still a little on the small side. Oh, I wanted to take the baby home sooooooooooooooooooooo bad!!

I called the bf up and told him about the bird... he goes, "Thanks for the update." *lol* Then I went on to tell him how much I wanted the bird (but know I can't take on a breeding pair right now, for one). He goes, "Are it's eyes big like Mika's?" I said, "No." He goes, "Then there you go." :rotfl He knows how much I love Mika's huge eyes and am more attracted to lovebirds that have bigger eyes than "normal."

The next time I go there I'm gonna ask if they'd be able to give me the name of the breeder who sold them that bird... I'm sure they won't, but I'm wondering if it's the breeder advertised out of Hawaii Kai. I'm gonna give her a call and see if she's the one that sold them that bird. If she is, I'm gonna ask her to let me know when she has more... for the future.

I'm so bummed right now!! :(

Edged Dilute in blue series is also known as American White and Silver. Edged Dilute happens to be the most current nomenclature used for this lovely mutation. In green series, the older term is American Yellow.

Aww bummer. Thats why im not aloud to look at birds LOL. Your lucky tho, the petstores around here mostly carry parakeets and tiels..i had to find a breeder for Stormy. But then again breeders tend not to be overpriced like petstores

I can't believe it... you live in Hawaii and the petstores have birds like that in them?

It is like heaven there! I hate you - lol

You have to be strong...tell yourself all the reasons why you don't need another bird...then hurry back to the petstore, and buy that lovely little bird!!!!:rofl::rofl:

Oh man, I would love to go back and get him/her!! Thankfully I have some self control... hehe. But if I lived in a pet-friendly apartment I'd snatch that baby up!! Right now it's just not gonna happen with our living situation. :(

The bf tried to make me feel better by saying Kano would be really hurt if I paired Mika with someone else. And he's right... for now. Hehe.

He is right (for once - lol). Don't do that to Kano.

It is a beautiful mutation! I had never even seen one until I adopted Ducky. What mutations of parents produce the blue series edged dilute?

Oooh! It's so hard to resist, isn't it? I hope that you find the breeder so that you can put your name down for one :) (Don't tell anyone I said that... :P)

It's just a recessive allele that both parents need to carry for it to show in the offspring. Since Mika is ED, his mate would have to be visual or split to have visual babies. So it wouldn't matter if the parent was Dutch Blue or Seagreen or whatever, as long as the ED is there.

Where's Kahala Pets? I never heard of it. Do you mean Petland in Kahala? If so, that's where the one ED is.
