heard of Phoenix Landing? It's a non-profit, all-volunteer organization. It was established to promote and protect the welfare of parrots.

Well I am going to be fostering a lovie from them and if he/she does well with my 3 then I will be adopting him. depending on how it goes with this little guy I'll be fostering other parrots as well.... Maybe just 1 at a time. helping 1 at a time is better than none.

helping one at a time is HUGE!!!! Remember the starfish story...

"Once upon a time, there was a wise man who used to go to the ocean to do his writing. He had a habit of walking on the beach before he began his work.
One day, as he was walking along the shore, he looked down the beach and saw a human figure moving like a dancer. He smiled to himself at the thought of someone who would dance to the day, and so, he walked faster to catch up.
As he got closer, he noticed that the figure was that of a young man, and that what he was doing was not dancing at all. The young man was reaching down to the shore, picking up small objects, and throwing them into the ocean.
He came closer still and called out "Good morning! May I ask what it is that you are doing?"
The young man paused, looked up, and replied "Throwing starfish into the ocean."
"I must ask, then, why are you throwing starfish into the ocean?" asked the somewhat startled wise man.
To this, the young man replied, "The sun is up and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die."
Upon hearing this, the wise man commented, "But, young man, do you not realize that there are miles and miles of beach and there are starfish all along every mile? You can't possibly make a difference!"
At this, the young man bent down, picked up yet another starfish, and threw it into the ocean. As it met the water, he said, "I made a difference to that one!"

I should be bringing the new lovie into my home within the next month or so I would hope. I am fostering with intentions to adopt. if this new baby get along great with my three then I will be adopting him. I would love to foster a bigger parrot as well, but I'm going to wait till the new lovie settles in a bit.

They had a breeder that did not take care of her birds and they took away over 100 teils and over 200 lovies. They said that they were in the worst condition they have ever seen. They were all vet checked and some were too far gone to be saved. This little guy along with half of the others got a clean bill of health. This lovie is the last one from the bunch. He is 3yrs old. I have not seen a picture yet, but as soon as I get one I'll post it.

Even if this lovebird came through with a "clean bill of health," make sure you observe strict 30 days quarantine! A vet check may or may not uncover everything. It depends on what tests are done and how thorough the vet is. Get as much information as you can about what's been done (medically) with this bird. PBFD and Polyomavirus are the big ones but Chlamydia is a possiblity and that isn't always standard on the list of tests done.

Do your introductions after quarantine has ended. Please don't let anyone from the rescue group convince you that it's OK to put everyone together immediately!

Thanks linda! Quarantine will def. be happening, I cant handle another lovie incident. As soon as I get him here he will be going to see my Avian vet as well! I just want to make sure.
