ok so I was CERTAIN that Mardi was a girl (she was tucking paper in her rump) and Keiko was a boy (he was humping his happy hut and regurgitating on his ladder) but today I go in and KEIKO is tucking paper in his/her rump...PLEEEEASE tell me both sexes tuck paper! I'm confused.they seem to be happy together but if I do have two girls will I have to seperate them?:confused::confused:

If things are going well with your pair, then I wouldn't worry to much what sex they are. While two females will often have to be separated, this isn't always the case. I would just keep going as you are, and be prepared to make changes if the birdies stop getting along.

Good Luck

How old are they?

We have two female lovies who lived together when we first got them at six weeks. When they started reaching sexual maturity they didn't get along very well anymore. The fighting kept getting worse and worse until we finally caged them separately before they hurt each other.

Sometimes they acted like a bonded male/female pair. Then they both started shredding, tucking, clucking, and took turns "on top"... They were allo feeding and seemed really bonded sometimes, and other times the squabbling was awful. They both got really bitey if we came near their happy huts (which we removed after one nearly died from having a thread wrapped around her neck in the night).

My advice would be to have your birds DNA tested so you know for sure. We did that and learned that we had two little hens.

Personally, I think I would have them DNA sexed just so you know for sure what they are. I have several female/female pairs that just adore each other and I've never had any squabbling between them. While this is the exception, it really is possible to have hens get along with each other.

At ages 15 & 20 months, both are sexually mature so I think what you see is what you will have.
