My little Tuki has become a big problem lately. He used to like hands and would come to me, but lately, he hates hands and flies away when we try to get him to step up. He'll gladly get on our hands if we're eating something, though, so he can try to sneak a bite. We have to chase him back and forth whenever we try to cage him (for dinner, bedtime, and when we go to work). He doesn't like being caged and he gets depressed when he can't fly. He's a great birdie, otherwise, and he can be so loving and so much fun. He also never bites. But the problem we have when we need to put him away has become too much and I'm not sure what to do to solve it. I've tried practicing step up and rewarding him with treat seeds, but it doesn't work well because he can still fly away. Should I temporarily clip his wings so we can practice step up? If I did that, would the problem just return once he starts flying again? Is there anything else I can do to train him?

Well in my experiance if he stepped up before theres hope, sunshine is the same way when he gets an attitude and doesnt want to step up i trim his wings, after about the fourth trim (in 3 years) he has learned when dad says step up he means it and altho he does sometimes get stubborn (like when i try to put him away early) he will eventually step up and stay there so i can put him back home, he does the step up then fly to the fan as i move him home then step up and fly to the cage as i move him home, well you get the picture it doesnt happen often and usualy after the third fly away i give him the look and he nips my finger and allows me to put him home lol
