So I just read elsewhere that back in 2006 someone paid $9000 for a PF lovebird. The green of the body looked in between a Lime Fischer's and a Normal PF. VERY vibrant, almost neon, green. Orangefaced Opaline. I couldn't see the rump, but the underside of the wings were violet. The person who bought the birds (I think siblings) wanted to breed them and try to get that "new" mutation again...

Seriously, $9000??? :omg:

Yeah, there are but I'm having trouble accessing the page right now. I'm not sure if it's down or something... a 403 forbidden error keeps coming up. I'll try again later.

Is that $9,000.00 USD or is it foreign currency?

Oh oh!! Yes, I forgot about that... *lol* It was foreign currency and the equivalent was over $6000 in USD. It was $9000 in Australian currency.

The second and third photo are of the same bird, I just found out.

The guy wrote they were $6,833 USD ($9,000 AUS) EACH!! This guy personally took these birds from his friends bird shop and took them to the airport to be shipped.

I wonder what's happened to them since!!

Ditto. That bird looks a lot like Rainbow, my first lovebird. Who was gorgeous. And who was half masked, half peach face. Sometimes people asked me if he was a Fishers. And people always commented on how beautiful. Since he was my first lovie & therefore my "beauty yardstick", I thought Buddy was a plain Jane when I met her! (Sorry Buddy, I just didn't know any better.) I fell in love with Buddy because of her "inner beauty" & eventually learned to love her more subtle colors.

But I think this whole thing is a scam. Either the buyer got scammed, or he is scamming us! I hope the latter is the case. And I hope he doesn't breed these two--hybrid siblings? NOT COOL :omg:

That's a lot of eye-ring for a PF lovebird... IMO, anyway.

He couldn't breed hybrid siblings. I don't think hybrids can produce offspring, can they?

PF x eyering hybrids are infertile.

Eyering x eyering hybirds can be fertile.

In regards to other parrot species (aratinga x pyrrhura hybrid, for example or a scarlet x B&G macaw hybrid), I don't know. I've heard that some of macaw hybrids are able to produce young.

Acutally so long as they hybrid breeds another eyering they can produce fertile offspring, hybrid breeding hybrid am am not to sure of.

To much for a lovie? humph i wouldnt sell my sunshine for 9 grand, i'd think about it briefly lol but i would sell any of my fids!!!!

Well, I obviously don't know the guy personally, but he's been in aviculture for like 30 years or something. And he said his friend said they're pure PF because that's all he breeds (for lovebirds).

I've always been under the impression that the hybrid offspring of a peach-faced & eye-ring lovebird were infertile. You can pair a PF x eyering hybrid with whatever species (peach-faced, masked... or even another hybird, for that matter) and while the pair may lay eggs, the eggs will be infertile.

I've also been under the impression that eye-ring x eye-ring hybirds (let's say a masked x Fischer's hybird) young is likely to be fertile and can produce fertile eggs if pair with another fertile bird.
