Yep--he really is coming...today!!! After I go to bed and get some sleep, I am going to go meet him, and if he likes me, and wants me to be his parront...he is coming to my house!!!!
He is an 8 year old Timneh African Gray. He is a rescue. Supposedly he is very tame, loves to be held and get skritches, and talks non-stop. The lady who has him now has already had him vet checked and tested for diseases, and has had him for 4 months. She has no other birds, so I am thinking that should count as 4 months of quarantine. She is going to school for veterinary medicine and is very knowledgeable about parrots, so I am trusting that he is ok.
I am going to meet him initially and see how he is in real life. Then I am giving her half of the rehoming fee, with a postdated check for the second half dated for two weeks later which she will hold to see how things work out for him here. If things don't work out...if he doesn't adapt, then I will get my check bqck, and she will take Sydney back. I figure if she is willing to do that, she is telling me the truth about how good he is.
I am so excited!!:happy: I have always had hopes of being owned by another gray. Of course, Zoe is still my precious baby girl and this arrangement also has to work for her. I'm a little nervous about becoming a multi-fid household, but I think it should work out fine. After all--don't a couple people here have more than one parrot?
Will let you all know later tonight how the meeting goes!!

Hi Cindy,
Sydney is a gorgeous TAG! Lucky you to be getting him and lucky him to have found a wonderful potential forever home! The arrangement sounds good to me.

Since there are no other birds at this lady's house, yes, that would count as 4 months of quarantine. If my memory serves me correctly, Greys don't get Polyomavirus (I'll have to double check on that!) and PBFD would have shown up a long time ago! I'm sure that Sydney has had a recent vet check. Will you get to see the results or will the paperwork come with him so that you can have it on file with your own avian vet?

Several of us have Timnehs, including me, and we all just adore them! Harley is the original jabberbeak, always having to get in the last word or phrase! :lol

Hi Linda--I will be getting the paper work with him.
My biggest concern is that in November she rescued Sydney from pretty yucky conditions, and now he will be moving again...I just don't want him to feel sad, or feel that there is no permanency in his life, but he does sound like he is a pretty happy fella, and that he did adjust well to his current home.
The people that had him before were 4 adults and 4 kids, 5 dogs and numerous cats all living in a small 3 bedroom rambler. They never let him out of his cage because they claimed that one of the kids was allergic to him. ????? But this child wasn't allergic to 5 dogs and numerous cats!!!??? Give me a break!!!! They were selling him to get money for Christmas presents!!! The lady who has him did pay for him, but said she felt that she really was rescuing him. She said his cage was filthy and the house was filthy, and once she saw him, there was no way she was leaving without him. She is now looking to rehome him because she just got accepted to the University of MN school of Veterinary medicine, and knows she won't have much quality time for him. I believe she is truly concerned for him, as she interviewed me thoroughly and even checked references as far as she called my hospital to make sure I was being truthful with her about where I worked, and she called the pet store...Parrot Island to make sure I was truthful about the fact that I buy Zoe's food there, and how much time I spend their shopping. I totally did not mind her checking up on me like that. It makes me sooooo happy to know that she is truly concerned for this beautiful boy!! And makes me feel good about buying him from her.
I realize I shouldn't judge...perhaps the economy forced them into their living situation. Lord knows I am blessed to have the job I have, and it's pretty secure...so I won't judge them. Also, the lady who has him now said that he adjusted real well to the move, and is friendly...so somebody helped him learn be a trusting bird during the first 8 years of his life.
Anyway--I am excited to meet him, and hoping that he will like me and want to join my little flock...
and then I am not going to buy anymore birds...two is enough!!
and did I mention that I am really excited??

Hi Cindy. This is great news to hear your in a position to accept Sydney! He certainly looks to be one very special character. Really, I don't feel you'll have much to worry in regards to his former lifestyle, especially given the fact that with all Sidney's been through he's remained very social. Knowing too they love to be the centre of attention, life's just got to get better as opposed to only watching it pass by. Best wishes for Sidney and his wonderful new family!..............:)
