Buddy was back at the vet today. Her infection has cleared. But now she has a swollen face w/ red patch around her right eye! No infection in her eyes or mouth. And she has lost another gram. Only one, but that makes 3 grams in the last 6 months. The working hypothosis is the new laundry soap I'm using. I got it because it is supposed to be "green". But I had noticed some breaking out on my skin & some itchiness. I was actually thinking of not finishing the box. When the vet asked about any changes is soaps/lotions etc. the light bulb went on. So back to my old soap & see what happens. And Buddy is on an antihistamine (diphenhydramine HCL) & I'm to check back with the vet Monday--also decrease the dose if Buddy seems excessively sleepy. Er...if you sleep all the time except when you are eating, can you get even more sleepy? Well, I guess she could not wake up to eat....To show just how unlike herself she is feeling, she let Gussie preen her while we were in the examining room waiting for lab results! Gussie was very gentle with her, though. The vet commented on what an "amazing little bird" Buddy is, hanging in there so long after she looked like she wasn't long for this world! I agree: she is an amazing little bird! She was pretty perky earlier in the week. I'm only workng part time now so am home in the afternoon a couple of days a week. The sun was out so nicely that I put Buddy's and the canary's cages outside for some sun bathing time. She popped out of her happy hut right away & talked to the wild birds till the sun was no longer shining on my porch! She seem to really be enjoying herself. But I guess that's the way it is when you are old--some good days, some bad days. Lets hope both my "old ladies" (Buddy & my mom) have a couple of good days this week end!

Oh, yes! She's coming with me. I won't be passing her around to the residents, but she'll be tucked inside my shirt, where I can keep an eye on her. Gussie's coming, too. I am, after all, "the crazy bird lady"

hehe, i'm slowly becoming the crazy bird lady. i get it all the time at work when my bird toys and whatnot come in. I would have it shipped to my apt, but i'm not home and i don't trust anyone in the building to leave packages alone. anywho, i'm glad you are taking her :)

I'm sorry to hear about Buddy. Hopefully, the change to your old soap will help. I love your Buddy stories. She's such a beautiful and strong girl.

Hugs to you and Buddy and gussie! Like you said earlier, what a tough old bird! I can only hope that when sunnybird gets on in age, she's a super trooper too.
