do lovies make warning sounds? warning as in "go away or i'll bite" I ask cuz when pan feels like i'm cornering him (i have to grab him sometimes, which i hate and he does too, but he refuses to come onto my finger and i do have to get him when i need to leave the house or something. The only time he'll go back to his cage on his own is at night when i turn down the main lights and turn on the lamp to signal to them that it's bedtime), he'll make this sound, like a farting sound. He always does it when he feels cornered and then he'll bite and the feathers on his back rises up like a cat. is that a warning sound or just my theory?

Sure sounds like "Back off if you don't want to get hurt!" to me! Very hard to intimidate a lovie :rotfl

seriously, i know. see, i hear it w/ joey and evolet and i always thought they were fart sounds cuz when those two make that sound, it's nothing. Sometimes they're just playing by themselves and that noise occurs, but when pan does it, boy, are my fingers in trouble. I've been noticing it a lot lately just by watching him. i got bit bad yesterday. it was my fault, but having millet on my palms and waiting for him to decide if he wants it was taking too long. Pan and I have a long ways to go w/ our relationship. It is really a test of my patience w/ this one. And I thought Evolet was flighty when i first got her.

it probably means different things to different lovies at different times I guess.

i love the variety of sounds lovies make.... my maka used to *grunt* in reply to my questions.... Sunnybird makes a sound that reminds me of the *weeoooweee* in that stupid weeooowee like a cop car song when she's mad/attacking a pen or keychain. My mom's Hina makes broody chicken noises when she's being teased. hahah!

Farting sounds eh? ....I'd say He really means business with the feather rising!....>:....I agree with Bubblelady that he's lacking intimidation (or perhaps looking forward to it). As for "grabbing" Pan, I would be careful that he doesn't pick up on this becoming some kind of daily routine or ritual, otherwise you may end up losing your flock member privilages. While I hate to suggest a wing clip, this might just provide the best option towards building a trusting relationship rather than a competitive one......And.....:).....eliminate having to "grab" him.

kiwi definitely has a warning sound. to me it sounds almost like a growl. it's hard to describe, but when he does it, i know that he means business!! :omg:
