ok, so i'm moving out in april. my bf and i are looking at 2 bedroom places. One for us and one for the fids. does anyone have a bird room? and what's in your bird rooms normally? I feel like I would need to add some plants and hanging nets for them so it's not so empty. does anyone ever take their birds out of the bird room?

I haven't got anything constructive to add to this post- as I am in a similar situation (though I do have a fish room) but when our housemate moves out in May, we think we're going to make over the other bedroom into a bird room, and actually use our livingroom for the human beings. I have the bird's cage in the bedroom, and when it is set up, there's a big corner of our livingroom which is largely unoccupied which has a hanging grape vine 'branch', with a boing that reaches down to the tinker tower. I'm building a wood/pvc play tower and making a cotton climbing rope thingy to go with it, too. I'll probably put the extra smaller cage we have in one spot with food and water and something comfy in case she wants to rest while she's playing...

I'll be following this thread too, to see what others have in their bird rooms!

I don't have a bird room--guess I don't need one with one little p'let...:rotfl Zoe's cage is in the living room with her grapevine stands on top of the cage and a boing hanging from the ceiling above the grapevine. Her Tinker toy playgym is in my bedroom which also doubles as my office/computer area, so when I am in there, she can be in there with me.

Nope....living room has turned into the bird room here! :rotfl I kinda like it that way though as this way they are always around me. We do have an extra room that we were thinking of turning into a bird room......but the thing is that the living room is where we spend our time, so I'm not sure how that will work out! I like having them all right here with me in the middle of all that we do! It's good we have a big living room, but it sometimes still looks like cages are taking over!

pip's mom, i do agree, i'd rather have them in the living room, but sometimes watching movies is not so enjoyable. i know i'll end up keeping them in their bird room, but also taking them out around the place (much to my boyfriend's dislike, but oh well :)) Who knows, we might just up w/ a one bedroom and the fids will be in the living room. i too feel like the cages are taking over ;)

My second bedroom is the 'Birdy room', it's actually too small for a bed so I gave it to my birds, it's just got their huge cage in it with three bookcases (each bookcase has a playgym on it.)and I have a perch that joins all the bookcases together up high so they can walk to each bookcase (as one of them can't fly yet).

thanks for the advice heather. if i turn it into a bird room, i'm not putting in anything fancy like sinks or cupboards. it would be the 2nd bedroom w/ their cages and maybe a few plants for them to play with when they are out. probably order some nets for them to hang on. but that's about it.

Im in the process of making a bird room..im also renting so i cant really do TOO much. Right now theyre in our second bedroom which is the same size as our master bedroom. I have 8 out of 9 birds in there (i dont trust my Goffins in there being that hes bigger, he only sleeps in there in a sleeper cage at night)

Right now, all their cages are in there. Their cages are open at all times except at night i lock them in and cover them. They have several tables and playstands they can fly to and hang out at.

In the future id like to get hanging nets for them and more playstands for them to play on :) But for now its just small and simple.

Our third bedroom is our birdroom/computer room. Like Stormy's mom, all of our cages are open and they fly and play all day. Peanut is in there only when I am not home or I'm in the basement working.

Our sun conures are not in there though because they have 2 huge cages and they wouldn't fit. Plus, they like being in the living room with us.

I'd so much rather have all my birds out in the living room with us, but our house is so small, it is a small rancher under 1000 square feet, our cages would literally take over.

When I had Luka we had a little 'room' of our own since we essentially have 2 living rooms. She was content to be on top of her cage watching everything. I don't know if I would want a bird room because I want them to be with ME and not in a setting where they might become wild. I enjoy having my bird attatched to my shoulder!! Then again, I also only plan on having one bird - so it would be pretty odd to have a room for only one bird! If you had more than one I could see how it could be a good idea.

I missed this thread! It made me laugh because our living room has gradually become our bird room. We even gave away the sectional, matching chair, and the ottoman because with all of the bird cages it was too crowded. We needed more space for birdie play gyms! :omg: No wonder my kids think I'm nuts!

+1... Now that elmo can fly as well.. everytime we step into the lounge room she comes to us..

My boyfriend would love when we get a house to have a designated bird room and none in the living room. But elmo's and my favourite thing to do is watch tv together :)

We also moved the recliner and a book case out of the living room to make way for the birds' gym. And our dining room is my fish room. The cage is in the bedroom. Earlier this week a family member who stopped by my house noted that I'm already a crazy fish lady and now I'm well on my way to becoming a crazy bird lady as well.

When I was a kid we had a neighbor that we referred to as the bird lady. I loved going to her house to see her canaries and budgies. Now I have turned into a bird woman too!

Inside the house I have a study cages and Bird cupboard along one side, computer and book shelves on the other side and the birds have full use of everything (I cover my computer if i am out of the room so they don't chew any cords)

the past few weeks they have been allowed out as the dogs have not been here, dogs come back tomorrow so no more out of the room time for Elmo :(
