I have just gone onto 24parrot.com to get my two their usual ZuPreem Natural Diet and fruit blend for cockatiels which says on the packet its suitable for lovebirds, they have eaten this from when they went onto solid food as babies.

To my surprise, ZuPreem now only do two types of the natural diet, for "small birds" and "large birds" as supposed the individual species. The small birds is the pellets that used to be labelled "budgies" which when bought by accident by me once my birds wouldnt touch them and only ate seeds until I bought them their original pellets.

What am I going to do?? My birds can't be fed on just seeds? I'm really worried now as to what on earth i'm going to do, does anyone know about this?

Thanks :(

Hi Gill,
I have lovebirds that would not touch a pellet if their very lives depended on it!!!! One such pair lived to be 17 yrs old, both male and female. I simply compensated with lots of fresh food to make up for what they were not getting by eating pellets. Sprouted seed is wonderfully nutritious and extremely easy to do.

What's most likely happened is that Zupreem "consolidated" their products into just 2 sizes. If you read the backs of the packaging, you would most likely see that there really isn't much difference between the different species specific pellets. They may be packaged differently and be different sizes but basic formula is pretty much the same. With the economy the way it is at the moment, this is a cost cutting measure......

yea come to think of it Gus digs through all the pellets anyway and tries to get to the seeds - I need to def. incorporate more fresh foods.

Thanks for the information Linda, I had a feeling the smaller pellets may be the same ingredients (ish) as the medium ones but they wouldnt go near them, maybe i'll give it another go when they have run out of their originals pellets. I didnt think to replace their pellets with fresh food, they do like their fruit and veg :D

Also, I see what you mean about the cost cutting, that did cross my mind. I have been on ZuPreems website and they seem to still be advertising the 5 sizes they did, maybe it is just in the UK?

Your birds might accept the new size of Zupreem pellets if you mix them in along with the other ones (before you run out of them). Whenever I want to add new foods for the birds I include them with familiar foods.

Recommendation: don't wait until the old ones are gone, as slowly as you can, add the new pellets in until they eventually replace the old.

My guys like the Roudybush better than the Zupreem. You could try that. I give them seeds and pellets, plus the fresh foods.

Thanks enko chan, I definately will do, they still have just under half of the container it is in so plenty to get through yet. I have bought another zupreem mix which I will try, if not I will look into the roudybush :)
