So my hubby and I have been discussing getting sunnybird's wings clipped for the last couple weeks because it's been getting harder and harder to get her back in her cage.

Yesterday, she was out & something set her off and she was flying, flying, flying back and forth from a window to a ceiling fan. And she wouldnt stop, even though she was panting. She was breathing hard & chirping, and looking a little wild-eyed...and she wouldn't come down. We had to lure her into the bathroom, and I stood there while she calmed down, and then had to creep up and catch..... poor thing.

After that, we took her to get her wings clipped. Today, she's preening a lot, but seems nonplussed. We brought her out of her cage and she stayed close and on us & wanted lots of skritching. I think it's better for all of us.

Glad she's ok with it.

The one and only time I got a few of Jack's wings clipped, she was FURIOUS!

She is such an incredible acrobat, and it was (at that time) hard to catch her if I needed to. She only got a few feathers done, and until they molted out, she was attacking her wings, rolling on the floor trying to bite her back, attacking her toys etc. At first I thought something was poking her, but I took her back in and the vet checked them.

She was just REALLY mad. >:

I'll never do that to her again. She's easy to catch now, cuz she always wants to mate with me- lol. I'm thinking I'll probably keep my caique clipped, though, so in case Jack or Chino get too close, they can get away quickly.

Enjoy this time with her  all the extra skritching is good bonding time:)

I always saw to Eddie when he starts getting fresh.. "Time for an attitude adjustment!".

A wing clip really makes him lovable. I keep them long enough so he can fly short distances, but the chasing him all over the house to catch him is what always drives me to clip him again.

I also worry less about him flying into a ceiling fan or out the door. He can still fly little bits, which he loves. When he lands, he shakes all over as if to say "Yeah!! I did it!! That was fun". So, really I have the best of both worlds.

Enjoy your new little cuddly fluff ball. :)

Its good to hear Sunnybird appears no worse for wear after having her wings clipped........:)........Likewise, in that you both took the time to think things through. As good fidparents, we know it can be a tough decision sometimes to go ahead with having them done.

I know, someone wrote something mean on my youtube video with Eddie clipped. Non-bird people just don't understand.

A friend of mine was taught growing up that a bird indoors was bad luck. She couldn't even be in the same house as a caged bird. She was told it was evil.

That made me feel great, let me tell you.

Glad Sunnybird is happy. I know people that don't clip, and they don't let the bird out of the cage at all for fear of catching them. I think a bird would rather have more limited flight, and the run of the house. Just my 2 cents.
