This is waaaaaaay off topic, but as I sit here today at my computer, I am waiting patiently for the UPS man to bring me my brand new pair of (are you ready for this one?) ROLLER SKATES!!!! Yep-you read it right--roller skates!!
Last Wednesday night, I went roller skating for the first time since 1981!!:omg:
And went again on Monday night too. I really need to start exercising, and I couldn't think of what to do...I know I would never drag myself out to a gym. I do walk with my Shih Tzu in the summertime...but not in the winter.
Last week at work a coworker was talking about how she and another of our coworkers goes roller skating 2 or 3 times a week, and I knew then that I had found my new workout!!! I used to go every Thurs, Fri and Sat when I was growing up, and it was my favorite thing to do. So-I went last Wednesday and came home, and ordered me a pair of skates...the rental skates leave alot to be desired.
Anyway--sorry this is sooooo off topic, but you all are my friends, and I am so excited sitting here waiting, that I just had to share. So--can anyone guess what I am going to do this evening!?:happy::whistle:

at the roller garden?!! i haven't been there since i was in the 4th grade. exercising is a huge commitment that requires motivation cuz it's so easy to just not do it. i'm guilty of that. i tend to run around in the summer time than in the winter. i used to be really into jogging for up to 8-9 miles in one day, but then i got a bf and stopped hitting the trails and now i'm just too plain lazy. rollerskating is fun though. as long as you are having fun!!!

i'm just glad the fids aren't couch potatoes, but they kinda are cuz they're clipped. not like they can fly everywhere, though lately joey and evie have been zooming around the room. esp joey. it's like he's just now discovering his wings so he's everywhere!!! So that's good exercise for them :)

Fun! One of my best girl friends is a DC Roller Derby Girl... I used to go myself before I got sick. I figure skated and played ice hockey (I was an ice hockey, street hockey, AND field hockey goalie up until my sophomore year in high school) and I always loved rollerskating.
Enjoy the skates!!

Ohhhh, I was big time into roller skating when I was a teenager too! I used to go alot! The owner of the place we went roller skating knew my parents, and I got a job working there and got to go for free on other nights! My parents used to go roller skating when they were teenagers too, and they started going too when we would go.....along with some of my friend's parents! yeah.....lots of parents went and we were teenagers! but we didn't care much! It's been a long time, I'd love to go again.....I know the place we used to to has an old timers night once a year. I had a pair of roller skates that should still fit me now, but I have no clue where they went....probably packed away somewhere at my parents house! I met my very first boyfriend roller skating when I was 15! and I had alot of friends that went back then.....this subject brings back alot of memories......one of these days I'll go again!

Oh Cindy, that sounds like so much fun!!! I haven't been rollerskating in 10 years! Make sure you take some pictures so that we can see you in action :) I'm so happy for you!

I wonder if Zoe would like to come along and zip around the rink with you :)

Ahhh... I lived in Western MA for 13 years, Boston for 6 more, and Olympia WA for 6... and back to Boston area after that. Other miscellaneous places where I lived for a few months here and there. I used to rollerskate at a place in Western MA.

Yep Bookworm--went to Roller Garden tonight and it was busy!! Lots of people!! And they skate FAST!! It was R & B night tonight, very enjoyable. They say that 10 times around the rink there is a mile, so I got in at least 5 miles tonight. Fell once:( but I have lived to come back here and tell about it:happy:

I also go to Skateville in Burnsville, but don't like the wooden floor there so much. Less people there though, so it will be a good place to get in some good practice and skate at my own pace.

Roller skating is definitely an activity that I enjoy though--just as much now as back in my school days:happy:

Where in western Mass? I hate that they consider it western Mass. in springfield and even where the bird expo is going to be......those places to me are more central Mass. yet they still call it western.....why I don't know! I am truly in western Mass. about ten minutes or so from the NY border.
I grew up in a town over in NY about an hour and 15 minutes away. I moved a few times, but stayed in that same small town! My parents still live there! Then I met my boyfriend, and he lived over here....eventually I moved here to Mass to move in with him.....geez you move over the border and have to pay 90 dollars to renew your perfectly fine drivers license (which only costs 60 for people just getting their license!) car insurance is higher and then of course there's the famous exise tax! eventually we are going to get married, maybe summer after next and I am going to make my wedding cake! Check out what I found for cake toppers and also the wedding invitations!

I love the cake toppers & invitations, they're beautiful.

I properly lived in Central MA. You're right, though- no one ever says Central MA. I lived in North Central MA near the NH border- a literal 10 minute walk to NH, though the place that I skated was an hour and a half drive west of there, I lived in the middle of nowhere, we didn't even have a McDonald's until I was ten years old- had to drive 45 minutes to go shopping or go out to eat. The glassblowing studio I worked in and the skating rink was properly in Western MA.
