ok, so you name your bird after you get them. is anyone ever tempted to change their bird's name after awhile?
i wouldn't do it cuz i'm used to calling my birds by their names, but if i could redo it, i would have named Joey "Pantalaimon" instead cuz he is my daemon. And I would have named Pantalaimon "Hedwig" after the owl from Harry Potter (who also gives Harry a good bite or two every now and then...sounds like my Pan Man to me). Oh well. But it's tempting. It's not like they know their names, but it would be too weird to start calling Joey "Pan" and Pan "Hedwig" cuz I'll always end up calling them by their original names.
Anyone ever changed their birds name?
I call elmo every name under the sun considering how I feel and what crazy things she does. I always end up going back to elmo, but I give her lots of nicknames
Banana Nose (which is my favourite at the moment)
Poopie Bum
Elmo bottom
Elbow (cause it rhymes with Elmo)
momo
crazy
blood sucker
I call her some names in chinese as well, which translates to chubby boy
I would have thought you'd call evolet hedwig.. cause they are both so pale.

hahahah... i renamed my mom's bird. When my mom brought home her lovie, she was that grey baby color & mom wanted to call her "Cloudy". I was away at college, and said "nuh-uh!" we already had had a keet by that name when i was little.
When I came home I told my mom we were gonna call her Hina --because mahina is the moon in hawaiian (the moon is silver-grey) and hinahina is silver/grey, and it fits the "things in the sky" theme our birds had. So she became Hina. lol
Now sunny.. her hame is sunrise-to-sunset (in hawaiian) and she gets called sunny, sunrise, sunnybird, sunny-la (la is "sun" in hawaiian), sun-sun, la-la, "the la", sunny-booger, and sometimes just booger. Also, she gets called whatever she might be doing at the time...like "Tweaker" or "Tall-and-skinny" or "piggy" and she still gets called "Fruit Salad" every now and then. .... And she replies to all of it just the same....!

Ive wanted to change them a couple times. Sometimes i would name them, then hear a pretty name and say OMG i shouldve named them that! But rather than to confuse them and the poor husband i stick with it lol.
Ive sort of changed Lizzys name. Her "original" name was Elisa named after my sister..Lizzy was for short. But i find myself calling her Elizabeth rather than lizzy or elisa.
I really like the daemon thing tho..too cute! I loved that movie btw. Still havent finished the book tho. I think i left off either in the 2nd or 3rd part.
Oh definitely! We had a hard time picking a name for Kiwi, but in the end it stuck. I call her Kiwi-bird, Squeaker, Baby-squeaks, cheep-cheep, fuzzy-girl and feathers. As long as I'm paying attention to her, I don't think she minds what I call her. :)
As long as I'm paying attention to her, I don't think she minds what I call her. :) and as long as you say it in a nice baby tone they like it....

I have this thing with names.....once they're there, I never think about changing them. Three of my four birds are re-homed birds and already came with names. One of them I was told was a male and had kind of a more masculine name and ended up being a girl, so now my pretty girl is stuck with Boss as her name! Woody is the only bird we named and it took me six weeks to come up with a name for him!! He does the male beak banging thing and will peck like a woodpecker at the sides of the cage and perches, and still does this, although not as much as when he was younger......he always does it when he's gonna start singing, so as soon as I hear the beak banging, I know the singing is gonna come next! So this is how Woody got his name, with the beak banging thing like a woodpecker. Took me six weeks, but it's a fitting name for him! Pip's name fits him pretty good too, BUT like you all, I call him other things besides his name! Alot of times I call him Pippi, my lil monster! I think Pip knows the names I call him because I say them to him alot and he responds. I guess the reason I like to keep the name and never think about changing it is because I get a feeling that all of my birds know their names at least somewhat....they get used to hearing you say it, and it's part of their daily routine and birds like routine so I like to keep things the same! I don't want to confuse them! I want there to be some understanding between me and my birds so they always know what to expect from me.

Oh yes- I think I should've kept with my "flap" theme with Nokomis.
My husband talked me out of it- he said it was dumb.
I've often thought about changing it.
I already changed it when he came. His name was originally "Pip", but I already know of so many Pips.

Most of my bird names get transposed over time. For instance, Won Ton over the years was called the baby, then bubber, then bubbin, then my #1 Bubbin Lovin, and now we mostly just call him Bubs. Now he understands both Won Ton and Bubs and will pay attention to either.
We also have our rescue Meyer's Cookie. I hate that name, but we never changed it: technically. Over the years Cookie has transposed into Kookabura, Kooker, Kook, Tootie, Toot, Tootie Heimer, Mr. Von Tootin' Heimer, Root, Rooter, and now Rudy.
The key is to mix up both names and they just sort of get used to whatever you call them.
