Odinn has been building forts for he and Freyja to play in. He goes so far as to throw things off my bureau, stack pillars to hold the roof up, and pull a copy of our lease/booklet from my volunteer job etc. over the top- we've taken it down a few times and he just goes right back to putting it back up again. I gave them a cardboard box to play in, and he pulls paper over it. They don't care much for shredding it, though Freyja took the liberty of tearing a piece off the cover of a borrowed book (oops) but he is adamant about having a bit of private real estate where they can be out of sight. Lately Freyja has been less interested in hanging out with me, but she does enjoy hiding and when I start yelling "where oh where is Freyja! I can't find her! She's lost" she'll peek her little head out and fly over, then hide again. And as for that fort of theirs, Odinn defends it scarily. He took a chunk out of my finger when I was attempting to herd him back in his cage. Usually, saying "Odinn, go home" will suffice, whether or not Freyja is back home or not- and he's back there lickety-split- he knows he will be put back home and he does not like being touched by human hands. In fact, the other day Chris and I were talking about "Freyja and Odinn's new house" (the new cage we're buying this week) and he immediately went back into the cage out of the blue in the middle of play time... then we realized he must have though we were telling him to go home. I can kiss him, I've even touched his beak with my tongue (no I'm not being weird or gross, I just wanted to see if he'd let me), and he'll hang out on shoulders and arms, but hands are a NO-NO. He bit Chris last night, just lunged at him out of the blue, bit him and ran away and hid behind me before we even had a chance to react...and this afternoon when I took him off his fort so I could go get some work done, he bit and hard. I took it like a fidma ought, but it surprised me. He'd bit me once when I was feeding him treats, and I thought it was just a mistake... but he's certainly finding his beak and... other male parts.

Tomorrow we go on our first trip together. We're going to visit grandparents, my mother & sisters, and Luke & Leia the peachy green preen machines. I think it will be a lot of fun for them to play with other birds and its a gift to have birds that I know are healthy, sound, and friendly for them to interact with once in a while. I've got an excellent front/back bird carrier with a perch in it. I will have some fun photos after this weekend. See y'all when I get back!

Pip does that too, if he's out of sight somewhere, I just say...where is Pip? and he pops his little head out of wherever he is! Wow, a little biter you got there, huh? Pip will only bite hard if he's in or on his cage. If he goes into Ivy's cage, I get him down the bottom and pick him up and he never bites me when I do that, even though he hates hands! He used to bite a little bit before when I got him from Ivy's cage, but not anymore. He never bites when I pick him up anywhere actually....he tolerates us picking him up pretty good considering he doesn't like being held or hands! He is very cage territorial though and if he gets me while he's in his cage, he latches right onto my hand and it's hard to get him off!!! stinker!
Have a fun trip!
