I saw this add today on craigslist...........
I have a baby lovebird needs a loveing home he come with cage toys and food he is a male he is about 4 to 5 monthes small fee .
Can't help but be tempted, especially seeing as it's a male. Not alot of info there, but I emailed and asked and the lovebird is right in the same town as me! I always see lovies in pairs....not very often just one and a male too. I wonder about any clutchmates and if this is a peachie.
We'll see what happens when I get the email back.

did you make sure it was a DNA'd male? I've heard alot of ppl try and tell others that the bird is this sex or that, when they haven't dna'd them, going based on tails, stance, pelvic bones etc.

I have no idea anything about this lovie. I recieved an email back and it said they don't have any pics and didn't answer any of my questions. I almost get the feeling that whoever this person is, is either some kid or someone who is not giving this bird a decent home. I wonder about the baby's parents, and the email I got didn't even tell me if this is a peachface or not. They did however, give me their phone number and said to call. I know enough not to believe someone who tells me a bird is a male without it being DNA tested......that's how I ended up with a male and female cockatiel.
You want to know what's your first clue that an add on craigslist is posted by either a weirdow or jerk or someone who is not very caring about the animal? Look at the length of the add. One sentence with no info....what the heck is that? Post the info so people KNOW and don't waste their time....idiot! When I got Pip, his previous owner posted an add on craigslist and it was very long and told all about him and it was obvious that he wanted the best home for him. So I think something's either funny or not right with this add or this situation. I don't want to call this person.....I just want them to answer my questions I asked that should have been posted in the first place!! It does make me concerned for the bird though.

Oooo another lovie!!! I know how that story goes....here we are with Os!! & honestly, I love him so much - so I hope you get the little guy!!! I really hope that this person gets back to you and tells you SOMETHING about the little one. Maybe you should try and give him a call?? I know you don't want to really talk to the person but maybe on the phone they will give you more information and give you some in depth about this little lovey.
i too wonder about the state of this little guys home life =( I hope he is ok and I hope it isnt a truly bad situation, most of all I hope he finds a wonderful home. & I hate when people do that on craigslist. However, I do know that some people post very little information in the hopes that the right person comes along who knows what they are doing and whom they can talk to. O's previous owner asked me to call her in her first email to me and we talked for 20 minutes! Although she gave me some more info in the email for sure.
Good luck - keep us updated.

I can't stand most Craigslist ads... they think by saying "rehoming" instead of "selling" that it's okay to gouge people. I love how they have rehoming fees of $100+ for small birds and $1000+ for bigger birds. WTF is that? Rehoming means just that - you're trying to find a new, and hopefully wonderful, home for it. Not try to make some of your money back or make a profit!! >:

I really dont understand that either. I wouldve written a book on there if i ever had to get rid of a bird (no offense, but CL would be the last place id post it..) but you get what i mean. Then you gota love when they get annoyed with the millions of questions.

Well, I broke down and called the woman today but she wasn't home and never returned my call.....hasn't emailed me back, nothing. I think her add was flagged and isn't there anymore so no one else is going to be emailing her or calling her. I don't know, maybe she isn't wanting a good home for this lovie? or she's a weirdow!

I have to stop myself looking at classified ads for birds... otherwise my computer would be broken.. so many people with so little idea about birds..

To be completely honest, If I ever had to rehome a bird (or any animal) craigslist would be the last place I'd post, and anyone interested would have to really impress me to have my animal. But I would also only look for a new home in areas where the people have already established an interest and care for the animals, places like here, where the members have already demonstrated a desire to provide excellent care for their animals and to learn whatever they can. I don't like the idea of risking an animal ending up in the hands of someone who stumbled across the ad and decided to answer it on a whim, that's one of the issues I have when you see newspaper adds and etc for animals as well, or the free puppy/free kitten signs (which generally were the result of irresponsible pet owners in the first place). I think people should really have to think before getting a pet, so those who aren't actively looking for a particular pet, but just happen to stumble across one, are not the people i'd be interested in advertising to.
Sorry, a bit of a rant, but I see this problem over and over again with rehoming adds, or the accidental backyard breeders, or intentional backyard breeders and puppy, kitty, bird mills etc.

Well, the thing is here that the lovie was right here in the same town AND they said it was a male....one single male lovie and you don't see that often. Here is the response she sent me back in email......
sorry we do not have eny more sorry agian tank you any way
This is an adult woman with a teenage kid and he did not have an accent or anything. She can't even spell or type more than a sentence....I'm surprised she figured out how to post the add on craigslist! weirdow! I hope the bird ended up in a good place.

Oh boy that kind of scares me the way she spelled.....yikes.
