In light of elmo's recent nesting behaviour, I went out today and tried to buy her a bunch of birdy things to keep her amused.. 30 minutes in a pet store.. I'm $100 poorer.. and I also bought her the David Attenborough, Life of Bird Series.. well.. I say it's for her.. which puts today's total at about $170.. thank godness for the stimulus package we get.

But she seems to be enjoying it! Shes sitting happily preening herself while the show is on. I turned it off for 2 minutes to answer my phone cause I didn't want to miss anything.. and I got a real telling off by her! :x A big telling off! 20minutes later, she's still sitting quietly watching her new dvds.. It goes for 8 hours! :omg:

I havent finished it, the cruels bit I have seen is in the meat eaters section.. where there are some birds that find baby chicks.. :(.. maybe you should skip that episode..

I am watching the final disc, about finding a mate and babies!! just watch that one.. its soo cute!!! Nature is just amazing.. goldbourne finches. (sp?)..

Because elmo is sort of going into.. "i wanna lay eggs!!!!".. I began to play the.. "finding a mate" epsiode.. and she went INSANE.. screaming and screaming at them..

OoOO.. I dont have PBS, but I want to track down the Look Who's talking!..

oh momo I know how that is to get poor at the pet store! I bought Gus and O so much new things in the past week! Now I need to get a new happy hut (my lovely Gus chewed the rungs again on his AND O's - thank God I bought him chewies now so hopefully that stops) and new food and water dishes for O because he likes to pull his down and I'm tired of cleaning out the bottom of his cage every day, 4 times!! = )

what is this video series? If I know Gus I know that he'd go crazy over it.

My boyfriend couldn't believe that I had spent so much on elmo.. I neglected to tell him about the Life of Bird series.. a cool.. 70 :S... Elmo's favourite thing is to break all of her toys, if she can't break it, she doesn't care, so I am constantly replacing my toys..

The series is by David Attenborough, the old guy who knows about every single animal alive, and if he wasn't so old I'd have a crush on him purely for his love of animals.
He follows around birds, about where they come from, how they eat, finding mates, taking care of babies. I love it. I love nature doumentaries, and if you love them you will love this.

david attenborough is my absolute most favorite person. i wish i were even half as travelled as he is. i saw a natural history set at borders a while back and insisted on getting it. wonderful husband let me spend about $150 on the thing. . . i just adore it.

this year for my birthday he sent away to get a picture of david attenborough signed for me. i LOVE that present, so thoughtful!

As much as I like him, I try not to read too much into him because I hate when I like a person, then come to find out they're jerks. :)

I forget what it was called, but it has Life of Birds, Life of Mammals, The Blue Planet, and Planet Earth in it. I love that he narrates them all, because I didn't like Sigourney Weaver doing Planet Earth when it was on TV. I'm really big into nature documentaries. Kind of nerdy, not going to lie.

We had a plumbing emergency and did not make it out to cage buying tonight- but Chris now creates a budget of what we will spend when we are shopping for bird things. Sometimes there is an allowance for something cute we "need" to have, but usually not. Tomorrow we're going to buy the cages- a bigger one for Frey and O, and toys etc. for the parrotlet... I know exactly what you mean about Elmo- if Freyja and Odinn can't break it, shred it, destroy it, throw it on the floor- they couldn't care less. It took them 5 weeks to destroy their first toys and when we replaced them- which we've done every day for the past 4 days, they've destroyed their things in under a day each.

We have those too, and we also were so happy Sigourney Weaver didn't narrate. I like her in Alien, but not narrating Planet Earth! Those were incredible!

I'm definitely going to look into Life of Birds- it sounds amazing! When I was little I had an entire book shelf of bird guides and documentaries... I suppose not much has changed!

this sounds like me . . . i just can't help myself if i see some kind of bird book! i get a little upset sometimes when i can't find one more in depth than just a bird watcher's guide. my husband thinks i'm a little obsessed because of that.

i've seen those "cat babysitter" tapes on TV before - just birds and stuff, supposed to make your cat sit still and behave. i never believed they'd work, until i had Life of Birds on one night, on the "bird calls" segment, and my cat was glued to the TV.

We absolutely love the David Attenborough documentaries. Now we're going through the mammals ones.

In the one on birds there is an absolutely fabulous bit showing a bird who makes all sorts of sounds to impress his mate. He did things like car sirens and other birds but the very best ones were the camera noises and the chainsaw! You would NEVER think a bird could do those sounds! The arsenal of sounds that this bird could copy was impressive indeed!

We've also got Planet Earth and The Blue Planet. Now I also want to buy the birds series and some of the others. We get them through Netflix and just keep them coming. There never seems to be anything worthwhile to watch on TV.

It's so nice to hear there are lots of us "nerdy folks"!!!

I am in love with the bird that makes art.. I can't for the life of me remember which bird it is.. but this tiny little bird will make a hutch and pick flowers to attract a mate. its soo adorable!!

Those would be the bower birds. There were several varieties of them and all very fascinating. The feathers and the dances done by the various birds of paradise were great also. Maybe I better buy this series too. :)
