I have received 2 baby blue masks that are 7 weeks. We have had a 8 month peach face for about 3 months. We would like to house them in the same cage but our peach face seems to be picking on the little guys by nipping at their toes. The babies let out a cry every time. But they aren't scared of him, they seem to go back to him for more every time. No blood at all the babies are fine but are being herded around by the older bird. Is there a different approach that we should be taking or should we continue what we are doing and let the lovebirds solve their problems on their own?
We have already house them seperatly and had the cages side by side so they do get used to each other.

Hmmm... I'm sure someone will chime in on this, but from what I've heard, 3 lovies do not usually do well in a cage. Someone is always left out.
Congrats on the babies!

Hi, Yes, 3 lovies do not work well in a cage together. There have even been instances where the outsider is attacked and killed!:omg: This is very serious and if the older peachie is already being aggressive towards the two younger birds please take every measure to keep them seperated! Also, seven weeks is quite young. Have they been fully weaned? You will need to watch there eating/drinking very closely because if they have not been fully weaned and need formula you will have to hand feed. There are instructions in the breeding/care section if that's what you need to do. There is a risk of starvation with this so this is also very serious!:omg: I know this probably isn't the type of response you were expecting but you need to know this kind of information and fortunately you've come to the right place! This site has all kinds of information available to you as well as the knowledge and resources from the members. I'm sure others will be adding information as well. Just my :2cents: Please keep us posted!

Masked lovebirds are more timid then peach-faced. You need to remove the two younger birds to the other cage. They need alot of time to ever be caged together if possible. The rule is 2 birds or more then 3 pairs per cage. With 3 birds in a cage 2 can gang up on the odd man out. The best way is to allow them strictly supervised out of cage time together. Then go from there. Also I would be sure and find out the gender of all 3 birds. There are two reasons I say this. One if all 3 are female the chances of them being able to share a cage is very small. The other is you need to know if babies and eggs are possible. A masked and a peach-faced mating is not a good idea.

argh, i've had to rewrite this 3 times cuz my laptop sucks. anyway, i wouldn't cage them together at all. i have 3 myself and they are caged next to one another, all in separate cages. it's ok if they aren't caged together. i would just let them sit side by side and let them get acquainted that way and through out of cage time together. good luck. trust me, it's not easy when you do have an odd man out. i know cuz i have one, though it gets better everyday. there's someone on this forum who had 3 lovebirds in one cage and one of them ended up getting killed.

Hi and congratulations on your 2 new lovebirds!
House Peachfaced with Peachfaced and Masked with Masked. They are different species and should not be mixed together, especially since there are 3 of them. I've occasionally had trios that get along well but they were all of the same species, not mixed.
Good deal on the second cage! :)
