Lately my Henry has been waking me up in the middle of the night by making peeps at regular intervals. Just a single peep, almost like a hiccup. But he keeps it up all night some nights (or at it seems that way). He doesn't do it every night. And he always starts out quiet. It used to happen just every once in a while last year, and now it's at least a couple times a week. And it's literally in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. I've checked my clock when he's woken me and it will be 1am or 3am. I keep the room really dark at night and I've even tried covering his cage, but it makes no difference. I can't put him in another room--the only other space for his cage would be in the bathtub or the fire escape! Anyone have ANY advice???? If he keeps it up, he runs the risk of having to live in the bathtub!
Id like to know too, mine hardly ever sleep, last night they were shouting to each other at 3:40am then at 5:15am! The other night i swear it was all the way through! :O

I have never covered my cages and have never had trouble with night time noise...unless there is a sudden squabble that is...wondering if Henry is lonely, calling out for you? My son does that,

Oh lord I'm glad mine don't do that! Once they are asleep they don't make a sound until morning, thank god! I have no idea why your little one is making noise in the middle of the night, maybe he's dreaming? I know someone here will have some ideas for you...are the peeps loud?

Amazing how late these guys can stay up partying sometimes and still not be tired during the day..............I too have a late night peeper. Make one move for the fridg and your done for!.......:omg:......Whats helped a bit....Has been to uncover his cage the minute he peeps in the morning. Evening bathing (Although I never put them to bed damp for fear of a chill). And a bedtime treat.
Hmmm. Have you tried for the opposite effect? Maybe shed a little night light instead of having the room so dark?
Hope things improve..........:)

We have always covered our birds at night, it seems to make them feel secure enough to sleep and stay asleep through the night. At least for us living in the north if we would leav the birds uncovered in the middle of the summer they would be awake at 4:30 or 5am and that is not a good thing for the rest of us.

sunny's cage is draped at night. one light sheet & one darker sheet, the light sheet so she can't "see" out, but still lets in ambient light and the darker sheet only covers the top part of the cage so it's darker where she's actually sleeping.
if we're too loud, sunny lets out a peep or a call. I usually say "sorry sunny!" or "goodnight la!" (la is her shortened nickname) and she settles down & is quiet. once we're in bed, she's quiet (barring unusual night noises) until we uncover her in the morning.

I have a mature hen who does it, bird snoring? haha.
All my young birds chatter when they sleep, but they usually grow out of that after a few months.

Does he have a birdy hut? I play with Junior more now because he always used to squawk at night time and wouldn't stop. Maybe throw a treat in there at night time? :)

It's true! Pip wants to stay up late too, and then he's the first one up in the morning! Thank god he sleeps good at night!....it's my only peace! He does at times make peeps and sounds and chirps if he hears certain sounds.....especially if it sounds like birds! Like on the TV. He usually goes to sleep for the night pretty good for us.....but....there are rare occasions when he doesn't want to go to sleep yet and will keep coming out from his sleeping spot......three strikes and he's in his cage for the night! It's only happened once so far!

I've tried leaving his cage uncovered, especially now that the weather is getting warmer. We were OK for a few nights and then it got chilly again one night and he was really noisy that night. I guess maybe it's at least partially weather related????
Or maybe he is "snoring"!

Noise?...Chilly temps?....Yup, could be. Certainly, none of us would sleep well if we were to be cold and have to put up with a bunch of racket on top of it......>:
How about only covering horizontally (the side he sleeps on) half his cage?.....just a thought.....:2cents:....:)
A snoring lovebird?........:omg:
Kiwi does exactly the same thing! She'll yell at us if we're chatting in bed, so we'll apologize and she'll settle down, but then in the middle of the night she lets out peeps and wakes us up. I have no idea what causes it!

Sometimes my birdies react to house noises after they're covered. If I turn down the Tv, or mute it, they get better for a little while. I think they want the rest of us to go to bed, too!

Little lovebird does this as well! Its always right in the early hours and then hes silent again after a few cheeps. just one note repeated every 10-20mins or so over the space of an hour.
on a side note has anyone seen their birds dreaming? I've not seen it but colin my GCC has screamed a few times in the night and then fallen of his pearch. The first few times i uncoverd him and he was really scared and desperate for comfort. no i leave him, listen to him climb back up to his pearch and just whisper to him while he chatters back for a few mins

mine are quiet at night but sneak out of their cage at 6am and start playing and making loads of noise so I never get to sleep in :-(

You don't have a cat or dog that's making rounds of the house at night, do you? Sometimes that will set off a bird during the night... The same with mice.
Is that cage anywhere near a window that would let in the glare of a car passing in the night? Do you or a neighbor have a light with a motion sensor?
Just throwing things out there...
